However, she preferred Penny Parker to Nancy Drew, her obituary reported her saying 'I always thought Penny Parker was a better Nancy Drew than Nancy is.' Penny Parker was a high school student who worked for her father's newspaper from time to time. Her mother had died and so she was raised by the housekeeper, Mrs. Weems.
