They set the W rks on fire. In the evening when our party approached within four miles of the works on the hills aheve Bigger's Ferry, they Saw the smoke ascending and heard the end emy was there. At night our men were joined b3! Other companies from the Noirth of Mechlenbung, end a few South Carolina ref'ugees under the command of General Sumter. He being the 0% cer highest in grade was vested *with the command of the whole party. Next morning we had information by our patrol that after the enemy had burned the Iron Works, they marched towards where Ycrkville now stands.
