Excerpt from The Liturgies: 1549 and 1662 This is the most serious dislocation in the Liturgy of 1662. But there are others of less moment. To take them in order, and following in the first instance the guidance of the Book of Edward, the transposition of the Gloria in Excelsis from the early part of the Office to its close, is the first change which is observable. The Ex hortation to the Faithful, and the Appeal to the Negligent is the next transposition. These addresses, to which a third has been added in the Caroline Office, have been removed from the Introduction to the Oblation. In the third place the relative positions of the Sursum Corda and the Daily and Proper Prefaces with the Sanctus have been changed; and this portion of the Liturgy, which was formerly intended as an introduction to the Canon, is now sundered from it by the Prayer of Humble Access.
