It is often said that it is lonely at the top. But this loneliness can be dangerous, not only to the leader but also to the led. It turns out we hold our environments as we are held. If we are not held in a caring and daring fashion, it shows up in how we live and lead. The Basecamp Manifesto is a formative work on developing and sustaining leadership skills. Here, Terence Young outlines the development of a changed narrative around leading organizations. Rather than the often-stereotyped perception of leadership as a solitary ascent to the top—followed often by an equally solitary descent down the leadership peak—Young has created a framework for leadership that relies on developing a “basecamp” of companions. Like the familiar basecamps of extraordinary physical ascents of Mount Everest and other spectacular and spectacularly challenging peaks, a leader’s basecamp is a secure base of trusted and trusting peers that shape and nurture you during the ascent to leadership. Young presents the gifts that current and future leaders should find in a secure base: greater clarity in the sense-making process, enhancement of agility in navigating dynamic situations, building endurance to face challenges, and fostering generativity for greater productivity and innovation in one’s life quest. The Basecamp Manifesto is written for leaders of all organizations, whether for-profit or nonprofit. Whether a business leader, an educational leader, a political leader, a religious leader, or other society-facing leader, all leaders face particular and specific challenges in leadership: How do I lead and navigate with those in my circle through a world of increasing volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity? For the sake of those you lead, Young’s groundbreaking work says to leaders: find your people; find your secure base; find and shape and nurture the circle of trust that can make you a quality leader. The Basecamp Manifesto can help you to become intentional about shaping relationships where clarity, agility, durability, and generativity can be found and fostered.

In early 1942, the first covert agents of the OSS began training at "Camp X" near Toronto, Canada. Many more OSS "spy schools" for advanced intelligence training soon followed. Their Spy Combat Training was developed and taught by William E. Fairbairn, a former senior British official of the Shanghai China police. His was a method of fighting that combined the Chinese martial arts, jiu-jitsu, and basic street brawling. It was first called "Gutter-fighting" but later given the more respectable name of the Fairbairn Protocol. Fairbairn also designed a knife for use use by covert agents called the OSS Stiletto. Agents were trained to do what was necessary to survive. Firearms, explosives, edged and improvised weapons-as well as the empty hand-were all requisites for every OSS agent. And it was because of these skills that they were able to function and survive, alone, behind enemy lines.

SciFi aficionado, Avery Blake, and sorceress of suspense, Ninie Hammon, team up to bring you The Saved. This is the fourth book in The Taken Saga, a terrifying tale of alien invasion told from the perspective of three very special young people. After the blind Apache girl, Star, predicts the aliens will wipe out humanity by flooding the earth, the inhabitants of Zion Village seal themselves in the Matheson Caverns — fighting their way through an army led by Paco, who tries to steal their hiding place. Even though food stores are low, once Paco is defeated and left for dead, they start to hope they will survive … but their real battle for survival has only begun. When people start disappearing, the survivors realize that other creatures have sought refuge in the caverns too – cougars and wolves stalk stragglers from the group. Worse, they don’t know that Paco is still alive, using his gift of mind control to turn the villagers against each other so he can seize control. When Paco’s mind breaks down, the people he controls become mindless killing machines. Then there is the worst danger of all: four aliens have been sealed inside the caves too. While the villagers hunt wild animals and defend themselves from Paco’s berserkers, Star and Noah must lead a daring suicide mission to lure the aliens into the old mine and blow it up. Can these young heroes save the last remnants of humanity without burying everyone alive … or drowning them by allowing the waters above to fill the caverns? In a blockbuster conclusion to the four-book series, this small remnant of humanity makes its final stand. If they don’t survive, the aliens win and the human race becomes extinct. The Saved is the fourth and final book in the new alien invasion series, The Taken Saga, by Avery Blake and Ninie Hammon. Get The Saved and finish your new favorite science fiction series today!
