Included within these pages are the full current rules and all information needed in order to play games within the Arcanum: World of Arator universe. Also detailed within this book are: A complete, comphensive listing of all 20+ character classes a player can be. Classes in the Arcanum universe become even more powerful after level 50, by being "promoted" to an even more powerful version of the original class. All character classes have access to 10 powerful special talents at the start of level 1 and these abilities only get stronger as a player levels. After level 50 all player classes will receive 5 new talents that are even deadlier. Character classes can learn many different special abiltiies such as wrestling, duel wielding, acrobatics, blacksmithing, leatherworking, enchanting, and many more. All classes come stock with their own special abilties but it doesn't stop there, any player class can learn any special ability they want in addition to the ones they have as a class. Choose between dozens of different races including sun elves, dark elves, dwarves, halflings, orcs, hobgoblins, goblins, trolls, kobolds and many more. Learn all about the game and how armor ratings work, health points, energy points, magic, and combat. The only limitations within the Arcanum universe is what your imagination can summon into being.
What have been brought together in these volumes are works represent ing a variety of modern quantitative studies on a select group of marine organisms. Some of the species studied here represent basic biological ex perimental subjects-in some cases, marine versions of the white rat and pigeon-that are being used for a wide range of studies. Other species studied were virtually unknown as experimental animals. The authors have studied their animals in considerable depth, often in both the field and the laboratory. It is this cross reference between real life and the artificial but controlled conditions of the laboratory which gives us the necessary understanding, and ultimately the means, for improving our rapidly deteriorating environment, a must for man's survival, maintenance, and improvement of the quality of living standards. A direct outgrowth of a AAAS symposium entitled "Recent Advances in the Behavior of Marine Organisms" held in December 1966, these vol umes include a reasonable balance between review and original unpublished research. Of the many persons who have made these volumes possible, we wish to especially thank Nancy Fish, Lois Wino, Mabel Trafford, and Deborah Brennan. The latter two accomplished most of the final editorial work. The personnel of Plenum Press were cooperative in all aspects of our rela tionship. The emotions have long been an interest for those studying ancient Greece and Rome. But while the last few decades have produced excellent studies of individual emotions and the different approaches to them by the major philosophical schools, the focus has been almost entirely on negative emotions. This might give the impression that the Greeks and Romans had little to say about positive emotion, something that would be misguided. As the chapters in this collection indicate, there are representations of positive emotions extending from archaic Greek poetry to Augustine, and in both philosophical works and literary genres as wide-ranging as lyric poetry, forensic oratory, comedy, didactic poetry, and the novel. Nor is the evidence uniform: while many of the literary representations give expression to positive emotion but also describe its loss, the philosophers offer a more optimistic assessment of the possibilities of attaining joy or contentment in this life. The positive emotions show some of the same features that all emotions do. But unlike the negative emotions, which we are able to describe and analyze in great detail because of our preoccupation with them, positive emotions tend to be harder to articulate. Hence the interest of the present study, which considers how positive emotions are described, their relationship to other emotions, the ways in which they are provoked or upset by circumstances, how they complicate and enrich our relationships with other people, and which kinds of positive emotion we should seek to integrate. The ancient works have a great deal to say about all of these topics, and for that reason deserve more study, both for our understanding of antiquity and for our understanding of the positive emotions in general.
