DOWNLOAD EBOOKSystemic autoinflammatory diseases (SAIDs) are a growing group of rare disorders caused by dysregulation of the innate immune system leading to episodes of organ-specific and systemic inflammation. Autoinflammation as a distinct disease category was first reported in 1999 as a group of monogenic disorders with resultant activation of the inflammasome and cytokine excess, presenting as periodic fever and inflammation in serous membranes. Since this original description, the focus has shifted considerably to the inclusion of complex multifactorial conditions, and more than 30 associated genes have been identified. Disease severity varies from mild to life threatening. Advances in the understanding of the pathogenetic role of interleukin-1, have opened new promising horizons in the treatment of these patients, and significantly altered disease outcome.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThis second edition of Bench aids for the diagnosis of intestinal parasites is intended both as a practical tool for the diagnosis of intestinal parasitic infections for laboratory and field workers and as a teaching aid for students and trainees. The plates are arranged on two sides: the recto with microphotographs for the identification of eggs larvae trophozoites cysts and oocysts occurring in faeces and the verso dedicated to the different copromicroscopical methods (procedures) and main staining techniques used in parasitology. Special attention has been devoted to all graphical and pictorial contents. The decision to include the outline of an Ascaris lumbricoides egg in its relative size next to each parasitic structure fulfils the intention of visualizing the actual dimensions that the eye needs to be looking for when examining the specimens with a microscope. For each image the size of the parasite and a short description are provided to assist in the microscopical identification. Two summary plates one for helminths and the other for protozoa are also included to provide a visual overview of the different presentations of parasitic elements. The bench aids have been produced in a weatherproof plastic-sealed format that is robust and easy to use at the bench. They are recommended for use by all health workers engaged in the routine diagnosis of intestinal parasitic infections.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKAs much as The Bench is the story of an American man and his colorful journey through an evolving life, it is also a story of America and its colorful imprint on a man. Steve Mallory is a guy who's had to navigate a hardscrabble existence from the start. His adventures begin on the mean streets of East New York, deliver him through a vibrant stint with the US Navy and then take an unexpected diversion into a rewarding stretch as a captain of American industry. Along the way, he meets a host of fellow travelers, some of decidedly questionable character, and is confronted with an abundance of opportunity to choose the right way or the wrong way. Here is an unspooling ribbon of everyday life highlighted by flashing moments of pure whimsy and tragedy. In it, readers will find compelling evidence of the enduring resilience of the human spirit and the impressive capacity for even the most down-in-their-luck individuals to turn things around with hard work. And if they're lucky, they'll be able to identify a bench in their own lives just like Steve's, where they might engage in contemplation, commit to occasional reinvention, and cozy up closely to the American dream....
