If you were a dog, and for one day you could do anything you wanted, what would you do? In 2012 Hurricane Sandy made life miserable for many people, even for those far away from the coast. Torrential downpour and driving winds pummelled anyone who was brave- or foolhardy enough to go outside, yet two dogs in a house on a quiet street wanted nothing more than to go for a walk. Relentlessly, the humans and dressed for the weather and braved the elements so the two dogs could have their walk. The dogs barely noticed the sixty mile an hour winds, if anything they enjoyed it; the ball (thrown in the wind) flew for hundreds of yards, the game of fetch more exciting then ever. As the tired out soaking-wet dogs walked home after an afternoon of fun we had to wonder what they would have done had they the chance to take their walk unsupervised.

A modern fairy tale about overcoming our fears and reconnecting with those we love most. In our old house, Ma told me there was nothing to be scared of. No monsters hiding behind doors, or in wardrobes, or under beds. She said there were no dark places at all. But in the new house, under my new bed, that's where I found Shadow. “Beautiful. A really powerful exploration of a child’s experience of a parent’s depression. Big and brave” —Nicola Davies, award-winning author “This soft-spoken story can be anything from a simple, lovely, modern fairy tale to a stunning allegory about overcoming fear & how a parent's depression can affect a child”—ALA Booklist “Helpful to any family going through a challenging situation yet hoping for a brighter future”—Youth Services Book Reviews, 5 STARS

Now in its third edition, Beyond a Shadow of a Diet is the most comprehensive book available for professionals working with clients who struggle with binge and emotional eating, chronic dieting, and body image. Divided into three sections—The Problem, The Treatment, and The Solution—this book is filled with compelling clinical examples, visualizations, and exercises that professionals can use to deepen their knowledge and skills as they help clients find freedom from preoccupation with food and weight. New research on diet failure, health, weight, and weight stigma makes a case for why clinicians must reflect on their own attitudes and biases to understand how a weight loss focus can harm clients. In addition to addressing the symptoms, dynamics, and treatment of eating problems, this book presents a holistic framework that includes topics such as cultural, ethical, and social justice issues, the role of self-compassion, and promoting physical and emotional well-being for people of all shapes and sizes. Drawing from the attuned eating and weight inclusive frameworks, this book serves as an essential resource for both new clinicians and those interested in shifting their clinical approach. Trauma-informed and filled with compelling client stories and step-by-step strategies, Beyond a Shadow of a Diet offers professionals and their clients a positive, evidence-based model for making peace with food, their bodies, and themselves.

As World War I draws to a close in 1918, German citizens are starving and suffering under a repressive regime. Sixteen-year-old Moritz is torn. His father died in the war and his older brother still risks his life in the trenches, but his mother does not support the patriotic cause and attends subversive socialist meetings. While his mother participates in the revolution to sweep away the monarchy, Moritz falls in love with a Jewish girl who also is a socialist. When Moritz's brother returns home a bitter, maimed war veteran, ready to blame Germany's defeat on everything but the old order, Moritz must choose between his allegiance to his dangerously radicalized brother and those who usher in the new democracy.
