In the preparation of the United States budget for the fiscal year 1954 the Secretary of the Treasury assumed a personal income level of. $275 billion for the calendar year 1953, percent above the level of $268 billion in 1952. The economic conditions in the United States and Canada have been quite similar since the outbreak of hostilities in Korea. More over, the overall impact oi the Governments' programs as evidenced by a cash surplus or deficit in transactions with the public, also have been quite similar in this period. The cash budget surpluses or deficits in Canada and the United States, expressed as a percentage of gross national product, have been, or are expected to be, as follows in the fiscal years 1951 through 1954.
