Everybody loves the Psalms. You've read them for encouragement, for devotion, just for the sheer joy of reading them. You have your favorites and you return to those favorites time and again. The Psalms have buoyed the spirits of God's people for ages. But are you missing the best the Psalms has to offer? Are you getting out of the Psalms all David and the other writers intended? Steroids For Your Soul will help you to dig into the Psalms and draw precious spiritual nutrients from them. In Steroids For Your Soul you will find a daily reading plan to guide you in reading every verse of the Psalms in one year. There's an outline of each psalm to reveal what was on the psalmist's heart. You'll be uplifted with a daily devotional by Woodrow Kroll based on your reading for that day. And in the "Dig Deeper" block, you'll be directed to dozens of other Scriptures that treat the same theme. You won't just spritz across the surface; you'll dig as deeply into the psalm as you want. And that's not all. The author provides what God's message is for you in the psalm, what you should do about that message, and suggests a prayer for you to talk with God. There's even a "Note to Self" block where you can write your own response to the psalm. And each day you'll be given an encouraging quote to carry you through the day. Steroids For Your Soul is sooooo much more than a devotional. It will be your companion to kick-start your day or comfort you just before you turn in. Read it anytime of the day and let the Psalms encourage you in your walk with God. Remember: "A psalm a day keeps the devil away." Woodrow Michael Kroll -- For nearly 23 years listeners around the world grew in their spiritual life and biblical depth from Dr. Kroll's Bible teaching on the international radio program Back to the Bible. I Made It This Far is about a woman who went through so much disrespect, abuse, and hard times in her life. Angelique E. Constance wanted to share her own horrors and the triumphs, as there are a lot of other women who are going through it or have encountered the same childhood experience as she has. I wanted to share that even though it took me a while to empower myself to the point that I could finally take control of my life, once I did, it was the best feeling ever. My story will show people how they can get out of that vicious cycle and make themselves feel valued, not only by themselves but by the people that we value. We may feel that there are no way out of those life experiences. If I can grow spiritually and heal within, you too can do the same. You will find the person who you want to be. You can have the life you have always wanted for yourself. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. We just need to take that first step and be accountable to ourselves. It can be disheartening at times, but with faith, hard work, self-reflection, and the belief that you can heal within, everything is possible. You need to decide to let go and let God take care of you, while you take the necessary steps for the betterment of the life you so richly deserve. Believe within always.

Sports fans or not, readers will be fascinated by this revealing examination of the pressures leading to the widespread use of steroids in sport and the negative, unintended consequences of their ban. From Baron Pierre de Coubertin's original objectives in establishing the modern Olympic Games to the increasingly widespread use of performance-enhancing drugs during the Cold War to the 1998 drug scandal during the Tour de France and beyond, Steroids: A New Look at Performance-Enhancing Drugs puts the social construction of steroids as a banned substance under the microscope and interprets the implications of that particular conception of steroid use in sport. Clearly written and highly accessible for all readers, this book addresses a pressing issue in professional and high-performance sport—the use of steroids—by placing it within the historical context of the ongoing desire to achieve the pinnacle of human sport. Topics examined in detail include the three major crises of Ben Johnson's positive test in the 1988 Seoul Olympics, the creation of the World Anti-Doping Association, and the House Committee on Government Oversight's probe into steroid use. The author provides a critical examination of the current ban on steroids, and boldly advocates a common-sense solution to the complex problem of steroid use in sport: the adoption of harm-reduction strategies and policies rather than outright proscription.

Beloved I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers 3 John 2 (NKJV) It has been a dream of mine to prosper financially using biblical principles. I prayed about it, and then one morning, the Lord told me that it was time and that He would teach me. He instructed me to wait on Him every morning and to write down the things He taught me. I followed His instructions, guidance, and wisdom, writing it all down for a full year. This book is the result of our time together. To my surprise, this became a book of many books! The Lord would guide me to a specific book, teach me from it, and then move on to the next book. It was totally supernatural! As I followed the leading of the Lord, it became clear to me that God was taking me on a year-long journey of prospering my soul, which in turn would influence my financial situation. I learnt that I could not prosper in any given area unless my soul prospered in that area too, hence the book’s title. This book takes many twists and turns, and even has a few surprises. Did I reach my goal of financial prosperity? You have to read it to find out!

This surprising and thought-provoking book begins with the obvious fact that Stonewall happened 30 years ago, and the perhaps less obvious fact that in the 30 years since an enormous number of social science studies have been done on gay men. Dave Nimmons proceeds to synthesize that information to reveal a number of unseen patterns of gay male behavior, truths about our lives we feel instinctively but have not named. For instance, countless studies show that gay men have developed a culture in which public violence is almost non-existent, which is notable when you consider that violence in this society is almost entirely a male phenomenon. Even in intensely over-crowded gay bars and discos, with alcohol and testosterone saturating the atmosphere, fist fights are virtually unheard of. On in the area of volunteerism, study after study shows that gay men volunteer at a much higher level than any other segment of the population (and, very interestingly, our volunteerism is about evenly divided between gay and non-gay causes, as are our charitable contributions). Our patterns of intimacy and friendship are much more diffuse and extended than heterosexual patterns; sexual jealousy and exclusiveness are extremely different, as are our relationships with women and our pursuit of playfulness and sexual bliss. Altogether, these gay social innovations have no parallel in modern American culture; they describe a new kind of public ethics, one with deep implications for gay men and for the larger society.

A thorough, balanced examination of the controversies on the therapeutic and non-therapeutic use of steroids that covers both legal medical therapy and illegal performance enhancement. The discussions regarding the ethical, medical, and social controversies surrounding steroid use are as heated as the drugs themselves are powerful. Steroids comprehensively addresses the separate debates over steroid use in therapeutic medical treatments, sports performance enhancement, and cosmetic lifestyle choices. The contents provide balanced coverage of the complex positive and negative implications involved with using these "ingredients of youth" to evade the common ailments of old age and to overcome some of the limitations of natural biology. This book will be invaluable to students of not only health and exercise sciences, sports and sport-related fields, and medical science, but also those researching social and ethical questions involved with the use of steroids in related fields. For example, the book may be used by sociology students investigating social aspects of sports, health policy, and public role models; psychology students focusing on the role of self-image and mental health; and political science students researching public health policy.

A new theory about the origins of consciousness that finds learning to be the driving force in the evolutionary transition to basic consciousness. What marked the evolutionary transition from organisms that lacked consciousness to those with consciousness—to minimal subjective experiencing, or, as Aristotle described it, “the sensitive soul”? In this book, Simona Ginsburg and Eva Jablonka propose a new theory about the origin of consciousness that finds learning to be the driving force in the transition to basic consciousness. Using a methodology similar to that used by scientists when they identified the transition from non-life to life, Ginsburg and Jablonka suggest a set of criteria, identify a marker for the transition to minimal consciousness, and explore the far-reaching biological, psychological, and philosophical implications. After presenting the historical, neurobiological, and philosophical foundations of their analysis, Ginsburg and Jablonka propose that the evolutionary marker of basic or minimal consciousness is a complex form of associative learning, which they term unlimited associative learning (UAL). UAL enables an organism to ascribe motivational value to a novel, compound, non-reflex-inducing stimulus or action, and use it as the basis for future learning. Associative learning, Ginsburg and Jablonka argue, drove the Cambrian explosion and its massive diversification of organisms. Finally, Ginsburg and Jablonka propose symbolic language as a similar type of marker for the evolutionary transition to human rationality—to Aristotle's “rational soul.”
