Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is among the most important medical imaging techniques available today. There is an installed base of approximately 15,000 MRI scanners worldwide. Each of these scanners is capable of running many different "pulse sequences", which are governed by physics and engineering principles, and implemented by software programs that control the MRI hardware. To utilize an MRI scanner to the fullest extent, a conceptual understanding of its pulse sequences is crucial. Handbook of MRI Pulse Sequences offers a complete guide that can help the scientists, engineers, clinicians, and technologists in the field of MRI understand and better employ their scanner. - Explains pulse sequences, their components, and the associated image reconstruction methods commonly used in MRI - Provides self-contained sections for individual techniques - Can be used as a quick reference guide or as a resource for deeper study - Includes both non-mathematical and mathematical descriptions - Contains numerous figures, tables, references, and worked example problems

This book details the current status of cervical MISS for expert surgeons, young surgeons or clinicians, and residents and fellows with little or no experience on this field of surgery. Because of the involvement of different and highly trained specialists from all over the world, the aim of this book is to satisfy the requirements for knowing the most advanced surgical techniques and their application. Also included are the indications and surgical techniques involving an open standard approach, giving a most exhaustive knowledge of the cervical spine surgery. Due to the difficulty of finding books with both minimal invasive cervical spine surgery and more conventional standard “open” surgery, the benefit of this book is to permit the surgeons and residents and medical doctors, to have a more complete and immediate knowledge of the topics. Due to the scientific multidisciplinary nature of the MISS, several professionals such as orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, radiologists, anesthesiologists and pain management specialists, have been involved in order to create a book in which all the aspects of MISS have been treated.

Stroke MRI is a new imaging tool providing detailed information of the pathophysiological aspects of cerebral ischemia. This book with CD-ROM includes a case collection of 25 hyperacute stroke patients, all imaged within six hours of stroke onset with a complete stroke MRI protocol. Stroke MRI and the established clinical methods are compared and recent results from single and multicenter trials are presented to demonstrate the advantages of MRI for stroke patients. The CD-ROM contains diffusion-, T2-, T2*-perfusion-weighted images and MR angiography. Each case offers to answer the relevant questions concerning vessel status and lesion size as well as presence or absence of a "tissue at risk" with a self assessment mode and the expertsa (TM) therapeutic decision. The CD and the book are complementary to avoid redundancy as far as possible. They will be useful to both the experienced researcher using MRI and the clinician or researcher with no previous knowledge of the technology.

Evidence-Based Neuroimaging is a user-friendly guide that employs evidence-based medicine criteria to systematically review the evidence defining the appropriate use of medical imaging for the brain, spine, head, and neck. Edited by L. Santiago Medina, Pina C. Sanelli, and Jeffrey G. Jarvik, the book provides a systematic framework for understanding the best imaging choices for patient care. Chapters highlight key points that support clinical applications, allowing fast access to pertinent information including patient selection, imaging strategies, test performance, cost-effectiveness, and applicability. The diagnostic imaging of many common diseases, disorders, and conditions are covered, including multiple sclerosis, acute ischemic stroke, dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, traumatic brain injury, autism, spinal trauma, spinal infections, neck masses, thyroid cancer, and cervical lymph node metastasis. By offering a clear understanding of the science behind the evidence, the book fills a void for radiologists, neurologists, neurosurgeons, pediatricians, primary care physicians, and other clinicians with an interest in neuroimaging and a desire to implement an evidence-based approach into their daily practice.

This book provides a thorough overview of the ongoing evolution in the application of artificial intelligence (AI) within healthcare and radiology, enabling readers to gain a deeper insight into the technological background of AI and the impacts of new and emerging technologies on medical imaging. After an introduction on game changers in radiology, such as deep learning technology, the technological evolution of AI in computing science and medical image computing is described, with explanation of basic principles and the types and subtypes of AI. Subsequent sections address the use of imaging biomarkers, the development and validation of AI applications, and various aspects and issues relating to the growing role of big data in radiology. Diverse real-life clinical applications of AI are then outlined for different body parts, demonstrating their ability to add value to daily radiology practices. The concluding section focuses on the impact of AI on radiology and the implications for radiologists, for example with respect to training. Written by radiologists and IT professionals, the book will be of high value for radiologists, medical/clinical physicists, IT specialists, and imaging informatics professionals.
