Then, too, each Rose 18 clearly labeled so that you have here gardens of intelligence as well as gardens of delight. Originally planted so that we might primarily test our own products, and also so that all our folks who help care for your orders might be thoroughly well informed, these gardens have proved to be a kind of Rose Mecca for friends, patrons, tourists, garden clubs, and rose societies. Visitors come from most distant points to get the informa tion and inspiration to be had here, and to some of them a sight and opportunity more worth while than even our Display or Species Gar dens are the tens of thousands of Roses blooming 1n the fields near-by, stretching away in long rows and often abounding m a wealth of bloom. Here you will see Star Roses 1n the making and by the acre; one field of plants adjoins the office; other and more extensive fields are on or off the main highway near-by. We are located on the direct motor route from New York to Washington, between Philadelphia and Baltimore; also within 2 miles from Avondale on the shortest route from the Lincoln Highway and the West to Atlantic City via Wilmington. (see map; motor map on request.) Visitors always welcome. On Sundays the grounds are open but no business is transacted. (from March 15 to May 15, local orders are accepted at office only, for delivery not until the day after.) The large, shapely petals flare gracefully outward as the flower opens, creating an interesting contrast of gleaming highlights and subdued golden shadows. The bloom comes singly on long stems; excellent for cutting and arranging. The plant is medium tall, and grows fairly upright, with good strong, heavy canes. The foliage is a good shiny green on the upper sides and a satiny, darker green on the undersides. King's Ransom has a nice lingering fragrance to add to its many other good qualities. The large, ovoid bud is very similar in color to Los Angeles, but the open bloom is fuller and holds its form better. There is a pleasing fragrance. The color is a glowing salmon-pink, faintly washed with lemon-yellow at the base. Its flower-stems are strong and hold up th heavy blooms without bending. In habit i is very good - upright and vigorous. It has large, glossy foliage which is quite persistent. Blooms abundantly and continuously.
