DOWNLOAD EBOOKThis report describes Version 1.5 of the Software Capability Evaluation (SCE) method, as taught at the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) from January 1992 to June 1993. This version of the SCE method is based on the process maturity framework defined in Characterizing the Software Process: Maturity Framework (CMU/SEI-87-TR-11, ADA197671), which predates Version 1.0 of the Capability Maturity Model (CMM) described in Capability Maturity Model for Software (CMU/SEl-91-TR 24, ADA240603). The document includes a background overview of the SCE method and its evolution, a detailed description of the activities performed during an SCE, and a discussion of the characteristics of the method and their implications for the use of the method. This as built description provides a baseline for future evolution of the SCE method. Capability maturity model, Software capability evaluation, Software process.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKAbstract: "This report describes Version 3.0 of the Software Capability Evaluation (SCE) Method. SCE is a method for evaluating the software process of an organization to gain insight into its process capability. This version of the SCE Method is based on the Capability Maturity Model (CMM) defined in Capability Maturity Model for Software, Version 1.1 [Paulk 93a]. It is compliant with the CMM Appraisal Framework (CAF) [Masters 95]. This document is an update to SCE Version 2.0 [CBA Project 94]."

DOWNLOAD EBOOKAbstract: "Software Capability Evaluation (SCE) is a method for independently evaluating the software process of an organization to gain insight into its software development capability. The method is defined in the report 'Software Capability Evaluation Version 2.0 Method Description.' [SCE 93b] This document, the 'Software Capability Evaluation Version 2.0 Team Members' Guide, ' is intended for use by members of teams that will be conducting an SCE. The guide provides detailed step-by-step instructions and heuristic information to assist an SCE team in preparing for and conducting an evaluation."

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThis paper defines a method for evaluating a contractor's ability to comply with both the Software Engineering Institute's (SEI) Process Maturity Model and the Ballistic Missile Defense's (BMD) Trusted Software Methodology (TSM). The SEI model is used to evaluate the maturity of a contractor's software development process. The TSM is used to evaluate the contractor's ability to prevent inadvertent and malicious errors from occurring in software products. The method described in this paper identifies the commonality and differences between these two models and the additional activities that must occur during an SEI Software Capability Evaluation (SCE) to accommodate the TSM criteria. This method was developed after receiving appropriate SCE and TSM training and performing numerous SCEs. It is intended to be used throughout the BMD program to help identify software development risks.
