Short Story Press Presents Uncertain Throne They were princesses that were never supposed to inherit the throne, but to live happily ever after with their princes. Everything changed when a mass slaughter took the lives of the generation before, leaving an elderly king with no heirs, save them. Felicia rules the kingdom with a heavy heart, separated from her long term love to love a man who makes her choose; love or the throne. Eva, the sickly but strong-hearted princess, and James, the navy commodore and trusted advisor of Felecia, no longer have to hide their long term love affair. Eva and James think they finally have peace after being separated for 15 years by Eva's arranged marriage: an alliance once made to help fortify the country. Now, Felicia must choose her own love and happiness or the throne. Will she disrupt the finally peaceful and relaxing lives of Eva and James to have them take the throne? Or will she choose to live in misery without the man she loves; a man she cannot marry? “The Uncertain Throne” makes us realize what we must do in the most desperate of times and realize our true self. Not all of us would respond the same way; not all of us would become the same person or make the same choices we think we would make. Suitable for ages 13+ up, the morals of this story transcend age and time Short Story Press publishes short stories written by everyday writers.

Short Story Press Presents Unable To Breathe by Jasmine Bowen • A grungy, edgy Rockstar famous since he was 12 and a young model, innocent in her ways and just coming into her own. • They didn’t have much in common; except for fame…and the inability to properly breathe. • While Olympia’s father does everything to keep her cystic fibrosis under control, his healthy ways won’t give her immortality. Meanwhile, Michael has chosen to live life like a fast burning torch; since he’ll be dead soon either way. • Will Michael’s flamethrower ways destroy Olympia, or will her slow burning candle save him before it’s too late? • Olympia’s family disapproves of the troublesome Rockstar, and his band mates dislike the innocent almost-child that is always around. • Their tender romance is found in breathless moments of understanding; of silent gazes and knowing looks. • About finding beauty even in pain; even when your partner looks their worst. • When Michael receives bad news, it tests their romance at new heights. • “Unable to Breathe” is a story about love despite the difficulties; about the little things that bring you together even if you are worlds apart. About transcending lifestyle, religion, professions; all differences; to be with the one you love. • Is it truly till death do us part, or is there something after that can be shared? Short Story Press Presents Unexpected Trip To Thyrgaryn by Christine Tanner John is thrown into a world where he has no idea what is going on. First he’s chased by zombies, and they aren’t real. He is then thrust into the world of fantasy. For a boy who plays Dungeons and Dragons it’s just like an adventure that he and his friends have played before. However, this time around he’s not a boy, and it’s all real. He can tell by the broken nose he gets the first few hours he is in that other world. But how did he get there, and where can he find a way back to his own world. Demon’s Forge seems to be the place of origin, how he got to this world, but where is Demon’s Forge in this world, is there one, and how will he ever find it? He has to try and avoid zombies, Kings men, and who knows what else. Michigan has never seemed so far away as when John is running through the world of Thyrgaryn. He is a natural fighter, knows how to handle the sword and many other weapons, but can he do well enough in a fight for his life? Only time in the fantasy world that he showed up in will be able to decide on his fate. Short Story Press publishes short stories written by everyday writers.

Fellow Inklings J. R. R. Tolkien and C. S. Lewis may have belonged to different branches of Christianity, but they both made use of a faith-based environmentalist ethic to counter the mid-twentieth-century's triple threats of fascism, utilitarianism, and industrial capitalism. In Fire and Snow, Marc DiPaolo explores how the apocalyptic fantasy tropes and Christian environmental ethics of the Middle-earth and Narnia sagas have been adapted by a variety of recent writers and filmmakers of "climate fiction," a growing literary and cinematic genre that grapples with the real-world concerns of climate change, endless wars, and fascism, as well as the role religion plays in easing or escalating these apocalyptic-level crises. Among the many other well-known climate fiction narratives examined in these pages are Game of Thrones, The Hunger Games, The Handmaid's Tale, Mad Max, and Doctor Who. Although the authors of these works stake out ideological territory that differs from Tolkien's and Lewis's, DiPaolo argues that they nevertheless mirror their predecessors' ecological concerns. The Christians, Jews, atheists, and agnostics who penned these works agree that we all need to put aside our cultural differences and transcend our personal, socioeconomic circumstances to work together to save the environment. Taken together, these works of climate fiction model various ways in which a deep ecological solidarity might be achieved across a broad ideological and cultural spectrum. In this powerful and virtuosic collection of interlocking stories, each one "a marvel of concision and compassion" (Washington Post), a National Book Critics Circle Award finalist and "master of his form" (/~i~New York Times) takes the short story to new heights. Through forty-four compressed gems, Peter Orner, a writer who "doesn't simply bring his characters to life, he gives them souls" (NYT Book Review), chronicles people whose lives are at inflection points, gripping us with a series of defining moments. Whether it's a first date that turns into a late-night road trip to a séance in an abandoned airplane hangar, or a family's memories of the painful mystery surrounding a neglected uncle's demise, Orner reveals how our fleeting decisions between kindness and abandonment chase us across time. These stories are anchored by a poignant novella that delivers not only the joys and travails of a forty-year marriage, but an entire era in a working-class New England city. Bristling with the crackling energy of life itself, Maggie Brown & Others marks the most sustained achievement to date for "a master of his form" (New York Times).
