DOWNLOAD EBOOKExcerpt from Rudimentary Treatise on Agricultural Engineering, Vol. 2: With Illustrations Until within a few years, no machinery was regularly employed in the homestead; all was done by hand - aided, it is true, by a few rude tools - and in many districts of England, at this time, scarcely a single machine will be found in use; and it is only now in a very few farms that any regular system of mechanical arrangements exist for performing all the home Operations, with the economy and superiority that a regular set of the most approved machines will do. Certainly, one or two machines may be found on almost every steading; but they are improperly fitted up, and generally, if examined, will be found to be in a very bad state, and consequently, not half the advantage is obtained from them that would be gained if they formed' part of a regular system, properly set up.
