This meeting reviewed the status of aquaculture in the Mediterranean region and the activities of the networks linked to the Committee. It acknowledged the need to strengthen collaboration with relevant national and regional organisations, and that regular aquaculture reports covering production and marketing trends be undertaken and published. Budgetary issues were also discussed.

The Committee discussed the main problems faced by the Mediterranean aquaculture market and agreed on the need to harmonize and to implement the procedures for site selection and site management of Mediterranean aquaculture, for Environmental Impact Assessment and Environmental Monitoring Programmes. The Committee confirmed that the sustainability of aquaculture depends on four key dimensions being the economic, social, environmental and governance dimension. Le Comite a examine la situation et les tendances de l'aquaculture mediterraneenne ainsi que les activites de la periode d'intersession des Groupes de travail respectivement sur la commercialisation de la production aquacole, sur la selection des sites et la capacite de charge et sur la durabilite, ainsi que les progres realises concernant le Systeme d'information pour la promotion de l'aquaculture en Mediterranee (SIPAM). Le Comite a aborde les problemes qui se posent l'aquaculture en Mediterranee et a convenu qu'il etait necessaire d'harmoniser et de mettre en oeuvre des procedures de la selection et la gestion des sites concernant l'aquaculture mediterraneenne, d'evaluation de l'impact et du suivi de l'environnement."
