Excerpt from Interim Report of the Miners' Phthisis Prevention Committee, 1913 On the lst August, 1912, we presented to you a Preliminary Report which contained certain recommendations with regard to modifications of, and additions to, the existing _mining Regulations. Those recommendations had, as their object, the reduction of the amount of dust in mines, and it was suggested that they should not at first be given the force of law, but that they should be circulated and tried on the mines of the Witwatersrand. This report did not contain any account of the various experiments and investigations which the Committee has in hand, as they were not sufficiently advanced at that time to make it profitable to describe them.
