DOWNLOAD EBOOKExcerpt from Practical Blowpipe Assaying In publishing this small volume of Practical Blowpipe Assaying it is the wish of the Author to record the methods of assaying adopted by himself during eighteen years of foreign travel, in hopes that they will assist others who have to make examinations where complete assay offices and laboratories are not to be found. Plattner's instruments and apparatus have been used as much as possible; but, as the methods here adopted have in so many instances differed materially from those of Plattner and other authorities on this subject, different apparatus has been devised to suit the requirements. The general system of assaying adopted is a simple and a direct one. Sixty-four elements are mentioned in this work, and the assayer may be asked to determine the presence of one or all. The system being a direct one, directions are laid down for the separate determination of each. Practice will, however, soon enable the assayer to determine from one assay piece or sample the presence of several elements instead of one, and thereby save time and labour.
