Perusing through this book, it is termed a masterpiece; it came at a time when the world is decaying and many believers are stranded due to afflictions of life. In a time when evil is on the increase and many yield to the yarning of the devil, whereby they knowingly or unknowingly became prey in the hand of the adversary. Therefore, it is pertinent to say that this book is a must read for every Christian. Deliverance perhaps, is the most difficult and dangerous aspect of Christian ministry, hence, it deals with rescuing the captives whether lawful or not. Rev. Canon Chima deemed it fit at this point to delve into lawful captives. Many are captives without their knowledge and they are going down spiritually on daily basis. Many Christians are suffering in the hand of the devil and without deliverance, they cannot excel. Therefore, this masterpiece x-rays the signs and symptoms of demonic presence, many ways one can become a lawful captive, and different ways one can attract curses and varying degrees of evil covenants. However, Rev. Canon Chima in this masterpiece gave assurance to all Christians that through Christ, deliverance is assured in his concerted effort to showcase the supremacy of God over Satan. Chapter one is full of assurance of deliverance from God no matter the gravity of demons, curses, captivity, and covenants one finds himself. The power of God over Satan, demons, curses, captivity, sickness, and troubles was made manifest. In chapters 2, 3, and 4, demonic presence, how one can become a lawful captive, and how people attract curses were enumerated and dealt with in details. The three chapters opened my eyes to many things I did not know. Chapters 5 and 6 x-rayed covenants, varying degrees/types of covenants, and how one can be a lawful captive through covenants. Covenants have kept many believers aback for centuries and they have prayed all kinds and manners of prayer to no avail. But, this book is an answer. I strongly believe that with this rich knowledge of the deliverance concept, there would be a diminution in the prevalence and impact of freedom for all Christians. Therefore, I regard this book as a guide to achieving the ultimate desired hope of His (God's) calling for all believers in this changing world, and I am happy to be associated with it. Rev. Onyeachulam Sylvanus Supervisor, Special Duties (SSD), Post Primary Schools Service Commission, Onitsha Zone, Anambra State, Nigeria.

This book is a study of one of the most powerful revelations God has given me. Delivering captives in the traditional manner requires a lot of time, dedication, physical and spiritual strength, a price few are willing to pay. The battle can be fierce due to the ruthless manifestations of the demons. The reality is many times this type of deliverance is unsuccessful. However, there is an easier, more efficient way to deliver people and it is how Jesus did it. Jesus didn't come to earth simply to save us and to die for our sins, but also to give us freedom in every area of our life. He conquered the devil's empire and set the captives free. This goes beyond casting out demons of the occult, drugs, alcohol, etc. Captivity plays a role in the lives of all mankind

In a radically new interpretation and synthesis of highly popular 18th- and 19th-century genres, Michelle Burnham examines the literature of captivity, and, using Homi Bhabha's concept of interstitiality as a base, provides a valuable redescription of the ambivalent origins of the US national narrative. Stories of colonial captives, sentimental heroines, or fugitive slaves embody a "binary division between captive and captor that is based on cultural, national, or racial difference," but they also transcend these pre-existing antagonistic dichotomies by creating a new social space, and herein lies their emotional power. Beginning from a simple question on why captivity, particularly that of women, so often inspires a sentimental response, Burnham examines how these narratives elicit both sympathy and pleasure. The texts carry such great emotional impact precisely because they "traverse those very cultural, national, and racial boundaries that they seem so indelibly to inscribe. Captivity literature, like its heroines, constantly negotiates zones of contact," and crossing those borders reveals new cultural paradigms to the captive and, ultimately, the reader.
