"This book presents the ancient Hindu astrology in its occult and esoteric aspects. Traditional practitioners often failed to defend the veracity of the subject and dispel the scepticism of modern intellectuals. The ancient revelations have been restated here to meet contemporary requirements. The ancient seers presented Vedic Astrology under various assumptions and in allegorical and symbolic languages. They assumed polydimensional extension of human consciousness which was closely related with planetary impulses. Apart from the general approach to this ancient science, the study presents in depth the astrological description of the nature of man. It also provides deeper implications of various planetary combinations. Advanced practitioners as well as general readers will find the book informative, illuminating and highly rewarding.

In Vedic Astrology harmonious and inharmonious aspects among the planets depend upon their natural significations and their basic characters. Planets of contrary characteristics usually display inharmony when in aspect. However the lordships of planets have a great say in moulding the planets considerably, when in aspect. This change in nature and characteristics is particularly noticeable during their Dasas and Bhuktis. Thus we see that in Vedic Astrology the results of aspects of planets depend upon their natural characteristics and lordships. In Western Astrology, it is'the angle between the planets that decides harmonious or inharmonious aspects. The planets at 90 or 120° apart are supposed to be in harmony or create a harmonious aspect, tend to enhance each other's good significations, modify and retard the bad significations. If the angle is 90° or 180° or placed in 6th/ 8th to each other, then they are said to be in inharmonious aspects. They tend to irritate and block each other's significations. They give bad results for the houses they are posited in and for the houses ruled by them. We propose to discuss here the harmonious and inharmonious aspects between the sets of two planets in a general sense. These aspects are pliable for various horoscopes according to lordships and natural characteristics of planets involved and other aspects to these planets.

First ever edition of the Latin translation of Ptolemy’s masterwork This is the first edition ever of Moerbeke’s Latin translation of Ptolemy’s celebrated astrological handbook, known under the title Tetrabiblos or Quadripartitum (opus). Ptolemy’s treatise (composed after 141 AD) offers a systematic overview of astrological science and had, together with hisAlmagest, an enormous influence up until the 17th century. In the Latin Middle Ages the work was mostly known through translations from the Arabic. William of Moerbeke’s translation was made directly from the Greek and it is a major scholarly achievement manifesting not only Moerbeke’s genius as a translator, but also as a scientist. The edition is accompanied by extensive Greek-Latin indices, which give evidence of Moerbeke’s astonishing enrichment of the Latin vocabulary, which he needed both to translate the technical scientific vocabulary and to cope with the many new terms Ptolemy created. The introduction examines Moerbeke’s translation method and situates the Latin translation within the tradition of the Greek text. This edition makes possible a better assessment of the great medieval translator and also contributes to a better understanding of the Greek text of Ptolemy’s masterwork.

In Vedic astrology, the associations the planets form or variations of how they are placed in a horoscope are referred to as yogas. Yoga literally means union or that which adds, joins or yokes. Astrologically, Yoga refers to planetary combinations or configurations and their special results, which affect the life of an individual. In traditional Indian ephemeris, known as Panchang, Yoga is also a particular division of time, arrived at by adding longitudes of the Sun and the Moon at birth. These are 27 in number, starting from Viskumbha to Vaidhriti, each governed by a different constellation or lunar-mansion, which are also 27 in number. In spiritual field, the word “Yoga” means training, taming and stimulating the body and mind with universal soul. In Ayurveda, the yoga of two or more medicines gives specific results. Yogas are one of the unique features of Vedic astrology. There are hundreds of yogas mentioned in various classical texts. Most of the yogas are formed of more than one planet, but all combinations do not mean a yoga formation. The idea behind these yogas is to equate the planets’ strength in a chart, and how & when they will produce their effects in a native’s life.
