This book, first published in 1978, examines the confrontation of the Jewish community of Palestine – the Yishuv – with its Arab question in the period immediately following World War 1, a period of excitement and uncertainty. Its main focus is on the different ways in which the men and women of the Yishuv perceived and defined the question of relations with the Arabs, and how they proposed to deal with the problems that arose.

An analysis of the Palestine Jewry's attitudes to the "Arab question". This book shows how the majority of the Palestinian Jews saw the experience of 1917 to 1925 as justifying the adoption of a firm "solution" to the conflict with the Arabs.

Nineteenth-century Europe turned the political status of its Jewish communities into the “Jewish Question,” as both Christianity and rising forms of nationalism viewed Jews as the ultimate other. With the onset of Zionism, this “question” migrated to Palestine and intensified under British colonial rule and in the aftermath of the Holocaust. Zionism’s attempt to solve the “Jewish Question” created what came to be known as the “Arab Question,” which concerned the presence and rights of the Arab population in Palestine. For the most part, however, Jewish settlers denied or dismissed the question they created, to the detriment of both Arabs and Jews in Palestine and elsewhere. This book brings together leading scholars to consider how these two questions are entangled historically and in the present day. It offers critical analyses of Arab engagements with the question of Jewish rights alongside Zionist and non-Zionist Jewish considerations of Palestinian identity and political rights. Together, the essays show that the Arab and Jewish questions, and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in which they have become subsumed, belong to the same thorny history. Despite their major differences, the historical Jewish and Arab questions are about the political rights of oppressed groups and their inclusion within exclusionary political communities—a question that continues to foment tensions in the Middle East, Europe, and the United States. Shedding new light on the intricate relationships among Orientalism, anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, colonialism, and the impasse in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, this book reveals the inseparability of Arab and Jewish struggles for self-determination and political equality. Contributors include Gil Anidjar, Brian Klug, Amal Ghazal, Ella Shohat, Hakem Al-Rustom, Hillel Cohen, Yuval Evri, Derek Penslar, Jacqueline Rose, Moshe Behar, Maram Masarwi, and the editors, Bashir Bashir and Leila Farsakh.

Since the 1948 war which drove them from their heartland, the Palestinian people have consistently been denied the most basic democratic rights. Blaming the Victims shows how the historical fate of the Palestinians has been justified by spurious academic attempts to dismiss their claim to a home within the boundaries of historical Palestine and even to deny their very existence. Beginning with a thorough expos of the fraudulent assertions of Joan Peters concerning the indigenous inhabitants of Palestine prior to 1948, the book then turns to similar instances in Middle East research where the truth about the Palestinians has been systematically suppressed: from the bogus-though still widely believed-explanations of why so many Palestinians fled their homes in 1948, to today's distorted propaganda about PLO terrorism. The volume also includes sharp critiques of the wide consensus in the USA which supports Israel and its territorial ambitions while maintaining total silence about the competing reality of the Palestinians.

This book, first published in 1982, collects together ten studies from the journal Middle Eastern Studies. They tackle a variety of issues stemming from the conflict between Arabism and Zionism, before and after the creation of the State of Israel. Aspects of Arab- Jewish relations during the Mandate are considered, as are political decisions and diplomatic events that led to the end of the Mandate. After 1948, the diplomatic history of Israel and of the Arab-Israeli conflict are examined.

Most students of the history of Arab-Jewish relations have come to take for granted the stubborn resistance of the continuing dispute to any form of lasting and ‘reasonable’ solution. This book, first published in 1983, examines early Arab-Zionist negotiating experience with the assumption that this has direct relevance to our understanding of the possible outcomes of diplomatic approaches to resolving the conflict. Its main purpose is to assemble (half of the book consists of original souce documents) and discuss some of the raw material which may help readers focus more clearly on the origins of the conflict, and perhaps to eliminate some recurring fallacies about its development and the prospects for its resolution. An examination of the period 1913 to 1931 reveals of wealth of previous negotiating experience which is today largely forgotten, and indicates that there was little or no movement of any of the parties in the direction of modifying its basic minimum demands and aspirations.

Indonesia could achieve independence after spending 350 years under Dutch schackles. Like Indonesia, India gained independence after centuries of colonial administration by another European power The British Empire. After Nakba, we are reminded of the importance of patience and perseverance in the face of adversity and stand still in our land. Only by that, we will secure our freedom in one way or another. (Fariz al- Mehdawi) An enormous number of acrimonious and polarized debates on Palestine status still exist until today, however, Fariz al Mehdawi, as Former Ambassador of Palestine in Indonesia spoke on behalf of the Palestinian National Authority that Palestine is the only country participating in the 1955 Asia Africa Conference which has not yet become Independent. This book discussed an unflinching examination of why the Palestinians failed to win a state of their own in the 20th century during and after British rule. This book also exposes deeper and more nuanced explanation of the issues and threats that Palestinian Arabs is facing when the seeds of Israel are sown and how the Allies and neighbouring Arab Countries has enabled roots and development of the current conflict while shedding crocodile tears Our best-seller written in Bahasa as "Mengapa Palestina Gagal Merdeka" by Hanafi Wibowo, have been translated into English to spread more awareness to the world about Palestinian struggles.
