Katrina [Katie] Joy Delancey has staked her life on keeping the past and future away from her heart. But she is no master of fate or captain of her own journey. A near fatal race with a wild stallion, an unexpected discovery of lost African journals, and a chance encounter with a tae kwon do master, leads Katie through love, grief, faith and terror like she's never known it. One Last Wave is a story about being discovered by faith and love no matter where you are, no matter where you've been, and no matter what you think may lie ahead.
Is being alone worse than death? Acharon has no interest in finding out. He and Sovelet are two of the last humans on Earth. They’ve lived an idyllic existence on their man-made island over the decades. For Acharon, these have been good times, quiet times. Life, though, has other plans. Murphy’s suicide and Sovelet’s medical diagnosis have shattered the illusion Acharon has so carefully crafted. There is no more sitting and watching sunsets while humanity winds down to extinction. Not if he wants to save Sovelet’s life. To do so, Acharon and Sovelet must face a city gone wild. A city that hasn’t seen a human in decades and has no fear of them. It is a city filled with dangers and bad memories. But Acharon will face everything to keep Sovelet alive and safe. Death will come in time, but not without a fight. Not if Acharon has any say in the matter. In the tradition of Earth Abides, Dog Stars, and On The Beach, Last Wave explores what it is to be human and what it means to be alive. Start reading now!
This book is a factual think-piece description of a world future that can be expected over the next 30-40 years with some degree of confidence given the past and the present trends that we all can observe today. The reader will most certainly see this mentally when they read the small book very attentively. The contents are a result of an inspired and informational study of the world and economic, communication/informational sharing, scientific and technological trends I and the reader will have witnessed in their everyday life. The book's content started for me in mid-1979, and has continued until and since it's publish date of 2011-12. I originally gave the predictions and previous content in an oral presentation before the World Future Chapter at Ann Arundel Community College, in Arnold MD, in 1996 in which most of my predictions came true but about 8 to 10 years sooner than I had prognosticated. The ideas originally started for me with a little book by an author Shuman, etal., published in about 1971 about a coming deflationary deflstion in 1984 and which I had no belief. That was in 1977, but by mid-1979, I came to realize that it and I were mistaken, in that we were all going through an inflationary depression starting about 1973 to then and going forth. This led me to think and read more articles about the world and U.S. events that predict these types of events but along Kondratieff's 54 year period. That was wrong, too, I have come to realize in 2011-12 that his theory has become shorter and if you read my book, and on your own, you can tell why. That's enough for you all at present. Secret, strange, dark, impure and dissonant...Enter the haunted landscapes of folk horror, a world of pagan village conspiracies, witch finders, and teenagers awakening to evil; of dark fairy tales, backwoods cults and obsolete technologies. Beginning with the classics Night of the Demon, Witchfinder General, The Wicker Man and Blood on Satan's Claw, We Don't Go Back surveys the genre of screen folk horror from across the world. Travelling from Watership Down to The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, with every stop inbetween, We Don't Go Back is a thoughtful, funny and essential overview of folk horror in TV and cinema."A beautiful rumination on the dark films and television that shaped me and a generation of odd children, for good or ill, worth a year of your time, because you won't just read the book, you'll feel a burning desire to watch everything mentioned within." - Robin Ince"A comprehensive, accessible and often riotously funny tome weaving together folk horror in all its forms, from British television to the American backwoods, from Eastern European fairytales to the vengeful ghosts of East Asia. Ingham explores uncanny landscapes haunted by things buried, old cultures converging with the reluctance of contemporary reason, that very tension that gives his book its name. He attempts to both define folk horror and free it from definition, creating the ultimate guide to the genre's manifestations on film and offering a convincing argument as to why the genre resonates so compellingly with people today." - Kier-La Janisse, author of House of Psychotic Women
Gillian Best, winner of the Bronwen Wallace Award for Short Fiction, weaves a striking literary debut centred on one woman’s relationship to the sea in this sweeping intergenerational family saga. A beautifully rendered family drama set in Dover, England, between the 1940s and the present day, The Last Wave follows the life of Martha, a woman who has swum the English Channel ten times, and the complex relationships she has with her husband, her children, and her close friends. The one constant in Martha’s life is the sea, from her first accidental baptism to her final crossing of the channel. The sea is an escape from her responsibilities as a wife and a mother; it consoles her when she is diagnosed with cancer; and it comforts her when her husband’s mind begins to unravel. An intergenerational saga spanning six decades, The Last Wave is a wholly authentic portrait of a family buffeted by illness, intolerance, anger, failure, and regret. Gillian Best is a mature, accomplished, and compelling new voice in fiction.

An ironically upbeat book that asks some of today’s most inimitable musicians which song they would choose to be the last one they ever hear Variety Best Music Book of 2020 TIME Best Book of Fall 2020 Selection If you could choose the last song you’d hear before you died, what would it be and why? Your favorite song of all time? Perhaps the one you danced to at your wedding? The song from that time you got super stoned and just let the chords speak to you? It’s a hard question that Mike Ayers has thought about for years. In One Last Song, Ayers invites 30 musicians to consider what song they would each want to accompany them to those pearly white gates. Weaving together their explanations with evocative illustrations and poignant interludes—what your song to die to says about you, what songs famous people have died to, and more. The book offers insight into the minds of famous artists and provides an entry point for considering how integral music is to our own personal narratives.
