DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) of IMO, at its sixty-second session in July 2011, adopted the Revised MARPOL Annex V, concerning Regulations for the prevention of pollution by garbage from ships, which enters into force on 1 January 2013. The associated guidelines which assist States and industry in the implementation of MARPOL Annex V have been reviewed and updated and two Guidelines were adopted in March 2012 at MEPC's sixty-third session. The 2012 edition of this publication contains: the 2012 Guidelines for the implementation of MARPOL Annex V (resolution MEPC.219(63)); the 2012 Guidelines for the development of garbage management plans (resolution MEPC.220(63)); and the Revised MARPOL Annex V (resolution MEPC.201(62)).

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThis document is a review of pollution prevention practices & opportunities for offshore oil & gas activities in Atlantic Canada. After an introduction on the legal context, the costs & benefits of pollution prevention, and pollution prevention planning, it focusses on pollution prevention opportunities for five priority aspects of offshore operations: air emissions, drilling muds & cuttings, produced water, biocides, and glycol. The document identifies current practices already followed or designed into projects and future opportunities that may become technologically & economically feasible. It also discusses other opportunities for pollution prevention or examples not within those five priorities, such as slender well design and carbon dioxide injection, along with case studies of their application.

DOWNLOAD EBOOK"The Environmental Studies Research Funds (ESRF) sponsored a technical report compiling information on technologies and performance data relative to the treatment and disposal of synthetic based mud (SBM) drill cuttings associated with offshore oil and gas drilling activities. This review focused mainly on Canadian Atlantic East Coast operations and drew upon experience acquired in the Gulf of Mexico, North Sea and elsewhere. After produced water, drill cuttings are the next largest discharge (by volume) into the marine environment from drilling activities, and are a key concern in all jurisdictions that support offshore oil and gas operations. Reviewing the period from 2002 to 2008, the study summarized various regulatory standards and guidelines around the world pertaining to synthetic based mud (SBM) cuttings disposal, updated the current state of cuttings treatment technology, assessed technology performance on Canada's East Coast and provided a summary of environmental effects monitoring from numerous jurisdictions."--from exec. summary

DOWNLOAD EBOOKAdvanced Technologies in Wastewater Treatment: Oily Wastewaters focuses on characteristics and innovative treatment technologies of oily wastewater from various resources. Primary and physical treatment methods such as absorption, adsorption, followed by common techniques like coagulation and fluctuation are discussed in detail. Applications of other advanced methods for the treatment of oily wastewaters like utilization of membranes and stripping gases are covered as well. Finally, novel technologies applied in purification of oily wastewaters such as photocatalytic degradation and biological processes are reviewed and future outlooks and prospects are also illustrated. Introduces the characteristics of oily wastewaters from various sources Includes primary and physical treatment techniques applied on oily wastewaters such as settlement, absorption, and adsorption Describes advanced oily wastewater treatment technologies such as coagulation, fluctuation, and membrane Explains novel processes for oily wastewater treatment such as biological processes and photocatalytic degradation
