Artivities encourage exploration of both personal experiences and broader world perspectives through the engaging power of art. It is based on the artist Shilpa Gupta’s original “artivity” sheets and her inflatable sculpture Untitled (2023). This new iteration has been developed collaboratively by Shilpa Gupta and therapist Rosie McGowan. The following illustrated pages invite young minds to interact and navigate through complex emotions and reactions to conflict and other challenges. Thoughtfully designed, they engage children, parents, caregivers and teachers in a shared exploration of creativity, empathy and understanding. The artivities align with Untitled (2023), the latest work commissioned for Ng Teng Fong Roof Garden Series at National Gallery Singapore, and reflect Gupta’s overall artistic practice. Rirkrit Tiravanija has created the second Ng Teng Fong Roof Garden Commission artwork for National Gallery Singapore. Featuring an interlocking bamboo structure with a simple wooden tea house at its centre, this site-specific installation springs from the artist's interest in fostering social engagement and human interaction through art. With homes in Chiang Mai, New York and Berlin, Tiravanija's nomadic life is a constant negotiation of cultures, and a source of inspiration for his practice. This catalogue illuminates this influential artist's fascinating oeuvre through newly commissioned essays and full-colour images of the installation. Other artists featured in this Ng Teng Fong Roof Garden Commission series include Danh Vo (2017) and Charles Lim (forthcoming).

In 1981, the Filipino artist and curator Raymundo Albano adopted the expression “Suddenly Turning Visible” to describe the rapid transformation of Manila’s urban landscape. The visibility that Albano evoked was aspirational, driven by a desire for rapid economic growth in which art had a critical role. This catalogue traces this story through three influential art institutions: the Cultural Center of the Philippines, the Alpha Gallery in Singapore and the Bhirasri Institute of Modern Art in Bangkok. It presents in rich detail artworks from the period, an anthology of primary documents and interviews with curators, artists and architects, revealing the links between architecture, modern art and the role of institutions in Southeast Asia.
