My Carpet of the Rainbows is a lyrically narrated classic family saga replete with its own share of trials and tribulations, aspirations and achievements. It is a tale of three women of three generations; Lucie, Eva and Rosana and their boundless quest for elusive love and home, which is unique as well as universal. A wide range of well fleshed-out characters, from an American singer or a Portuguese soldier to a rustic, homeless Indian child-labour or a coin-eyed businessman, illuminates the stage. Even the time and space take part as characters. Golden Goa, dreamy Darjeeling, serene Shantiniketan and history of colonialism are intricately woven in the texture of the story. Travelling through a labyrinth of human emotions this charming novel unfurls the whole spectrum of human relationships and unravels the mystery of human characters, behaviours and definitely leaves a deep impact on the readers. Written with an astoundingly easy flow, the words waltz across the pages in a mesmerising style. There are sweet, smiling similes, metaphors, and sour, pungent pun or alliterations on every page. The narrating style of rewind and fast forward in Book 3 is quite unique. Soft shadows of lyrics and bright sparkles of one-liners (I was by his side, like the pause following a word. Notes make notables.) make the reading an enjoyable, unforgettable experience.

The music continued in full voice and power perfectly syncopated with the rainbows movements for about 15 minutes before I could feel something happening to me. The totality of the beauty that I was both witnessing and participating in seemed to overwhelm all my sensations of joy and ecstasy. It seemed as if something inside me was beginning to open or to tip over into a larger whole. When one begins to pass out and lose consciousness you can feel you mind begin to start to be overwhelmed and this is all I have to compare it too. Save for the intensity of pure joy that the light harp and the music had made me feel it was as if my sense of the beauty of the universe was making me pass out but I did not lose consciousness, quite the opposite.

From New York Times bestselling author James Lee Burke, Detective Dave Robicheaux becomes entangled in a mystery that connects a series of grisly murders with an ex-convict turned bestselling author, a notorious local pimp, and the man currently dating Robicheaux’s daughter. On the trail of a killer responsible for the deaths of seven young women in neighboring Jefferson Davis parish, Detective Dave Robicheaux and his best friend Clete Purcel can’t seem to stay away from Herman Stanga, a notorious pimp whose name constantly resurfaces in their investigation, and whom both men despise. When Stanga turns up dead shortly after a fierce beating in front of numerous witnesses at the hands of Clete Purcel, the case takes a nasty turn, and solving the mystery of the Jefferson Davis deaths becomes more important than ever. Adding to Robicheaux’s troubles is the matter of his adopted daughter, Alafair, on hiatus from Stanford Law for a semester and home in New Iberia to put the finishing touches on her novel. Her literary pursuit has led her into the arms of Kermit Abelard, celebrated novelist and scion of a once-prominent Louisiana family whose fortunes are slowly sinking into the bayous. In Robicheaux’s mind, Abelard’s association with a sleazy ex-convict turned bestselling author named Robert Weingart puts him at the center of some very shady business, and Robicheaux fears he’s taking Alafair down with him. But at the same time he fears for Alafair’s well-being—and possibly her life—she’s becoming more distant toward him, convinced his concerns are just the paranoia of an overprotective father. To protect his daughter and clear his best friend’s name, Robicheaux will need every ounce of guts, wit, and investigative chops he can muster. From the creator of “one of America’s best mystery series” (Library Journal, starred review), James Lee Burke’s The Glass Rainbow is a “superlative” (Publishers Weekly, starred review) bayou thriller.

The Sword and the Rainbow by Lynn Nackson Everyone has a story that can enlighten if told from the right perspective. My story is of a search for peace of mind through a mental illness that began in childhood and continued most of my adult life. The spiritual conflicts of the Christian beliefs left me with despair when I was an adolescent and into my adulthood. In my case, I could not divorce the spiritual from the mental. To me, hell was here on earth as I went in and out of mental institutions, even making attempts to end the torment by ending my life. A very wise doctor pointed the way to Buddhism, which has a view of reality and the unfolding of phenomena that speaks truth to me. My faith in God, found through my Christian beliefs, in addition to the pragmatic approach of Buddhism, led me to fulfillment and constant renewal. My hope is that the reader can identify with the suffering and see their own suffering in a new light, whether they suffer from a mental illness or not. It is not a question of allowing diversity-but a question of accepting it. We are all diverse and we are all very similar. I want to promote an understanding of the development of a mental illness as well as help the reader see mentally ill people go through all the emotions and struggles of a “normal person.” I also hope that my book will give at least one person hope in the dark night of their soul. Hope leads us forward. It keeps us plowing on, one step at a time.
