CE TRAVAIL EST UNE ETUDE NUMERIQUE DES TRANSFERTS DE CHALEUR COUPLES DANS LES MILIEUX SEMI-TRANSPARENTS GRIS EN GEOMETRIE BIDIMENSIONNELLE RECTANGULAIRE. APRES UN BREF RAPPEL DES EQUATIONS DU TRANSFERT RADIATIF, COMPLETE PAR UN APERCU GENERAL SUR LES DIFFERENTES METHODOLOGIES FREQUEMMENT UTILISEES POUR RESOUDRE CES EQUATIONS, NOUS AVONS CHOISI LA METHODE DES ORDONNEES DISCRETES (SN) QUI A CONNU TRES RECEMMENT BEAUCOUP DE SUCCES EN RAISON DE SA PRECISION AINSI QUE DE SA COMPATIBILITE AVEC LA MODELISATION DES AUTRES MODES DE TRANSFERT DE CHALEUR. NOUS AVONS DEVELOPPE CETTE METHODE DANS LE CAS DES MILIEUX A DIFFUSION ANISOTROPE. AFIN D'ELIMINER CERTAINES ABERRATIONS NUMERIQUES OBSERVEES LORS DE SA MISE EN UVRE, NOUS AVONS PROPOSE, DANS LE PREMIER CHAPITRE DU MEMOIRE, UNE NOUVELLE VERSION QUE NOUS AVONS TESTES PAR COMPARAISON AVEC D'AUTRES METHODES TRES PRECISES ET DE REFERENCE. ENSUITE NOUS AVONS ADOPTE L'APPROXIMATION S4 POUR L'ETUDE DE COUPLAGES OU L'ON A EFFECTUE UNE ANALYSE SYSTEMATIQUE CONCERNANT L'INFLUENCE DES DIFFERENTS PARAMETRES RADIATIFS DU MILIEU, AINSI QUE DES CARACTERISTIQUES DE SES SURFACES FRONTIERES. COMMENCANT PAR LE COUPLAGE DE LA CONDUCTION AVEC LE RAYONNEMENT DANS LE DEUXIEME CHAPITRE, OU NOUS AVONS ADOPTE LA METHODE DES VOLUMES DE CONTROLE POUR RESOUDRE L'EQUATION DE LA CHALEUR, NOUS AVONS POURSUIVI L'ETUDE, DANS LE TROISIEME CHAPITRE, POUR TRAITER UN DOMAINE TRES RAREMENT ABORDE, QUI EST CELUI DU COUPLAGE DE LA CONVECTION NATURELLE ET DU RAYONNEMENT DANS LES MILIEUX POREUX, OU NOUS AVONS UTILISE LE MODELE DE DARCY POUR LA MODELISATION DE LA CONVECTION. FINALEMENT, NOUS AVONS TERMINE L'ETUDE DU COUPLAGE DANS LE QUATRIEME CHAPITRE, CONSACRE AU TRANSFERT COUPLE RAYONNEMENT ET CONVECTION NATURELLE EN REGIME LAMINAIRE DANS LES MILIEUX FLUIDES. DANS CETTE PARTIE NOUS AVONS ADOPTE L'ALGORITHME SIMPLER QUI A CONNU BEAUCOUP DE SUCCES CES DERNIERES ANNEES

This book is a collection of extended papers based on presentations given during the SIMHYDRO 2014 conference, held in Sophia Antipolis in June 2014. It focuses on the modeling and simulation of fast hydraulic transients, on 3D modeling, and on uncertainties and multiphase flows. The book explores both the limitations and performance of current models and presents the latest developments based on new numerical schemes, high-performance computing, multiphysics and multiscale methods, and better interaction with field or scale model data. It addresses the interests of practitioners, stakeholders, researchers and engineers active in this field.

The book intends to give a state-of-the-art overview of flexoelectricity, a linear physical coupling between mechanical (orientational) deformations and electric polarization, which is specific to systems with orientational order, such as liquid crystals. Chapters written by experts in the field shed light on theoretical as well as experimental aspects of research carried out since the discovery of flexoelectricity. Besides a common macroscopic (continuum) description the microscopic theory of flexoelectricity is also addressed. Electro-optic effects due to or modified by flexoelectricity as well as various (direct and indirect) measurement methods are discussed. Special emphasis is given to the role of flexoelectricity in pattern-forming instabilities. While the main focus of the book lies in flexoelectricity in nematic liquid crystals, peculiarities of other mesophases (bent-core systems, cholesterics, and smectics) are also reviewed. Flexoelectricity has relevance to biological (living) systems and can also offer possibilities for technical applications. The basics of these two interdisciplinary fields are also summarized.

This book deals with monitoring and control of biotechnological processes. Different methods are proposed which are based on the nonlinear structure of the process and do not require any a priori knowledge of the fermentation parameters. The theoretical stability and convergence properties of the proposed algorithms are analysed and their performances are illustrated by simulation results and, in many instances, by real life experiments. The concept of software sensors is introduced; these are algorithms based on the nonlinear model of the process and designed for on-line estimation of the biological variables and/or the fermentation parameters. In order to deal with process nonstationarities and parameter uncertainties, reference is made to adaptive estimation and control techniques. The book is the result of an intensive joint research effort by the authors during the last decade. It is intended as a graduate level text for students of bioengineering as well as a reference text for scientists and engineers involved in the design and optimization of bioprocesses.

Nuclear engineering has undergone extensive progress over the years. In the past century, colossal developments have been made and with specific reference to the mathematical theory and computational science underlying this discipline, advances in areas such as high-order discretization methods, Krylov Methods and Iteration Acceleration have steadily grown. Nuclear Computational Science: A Century in Review addresses these topics and many more; topics which hold special ties to the first half of the century, and topics focused around the unique combination of nuclear engineering, computational science and mathematical theory. Comprising eight chapters, Nuclear Computational Science: A Century in Review incorporates a number of carefully selected issues representing a variety of problems, providing the reader with a wealth of information in both a clear and concise manner. The comprehensive nature of the coverage and the stature of the contributing authors combine to make this a unique landmark publication. Targeting the medium to advanced level academic, this book will appeal to researchers and students with an interest in the progression of mathematical theory and its application to nuclear computational science.
