Jim Sasser Senator Sasser. The subcommittee will come to order. Today we begin hearings on the fiscal year 1994 budget request for military construction, family housing, and the base closure accounts. Now, the requests before us total $9,594,000,000. This overall request is $1,205,000,000 above last years appropriation, an increase of 14 percent. Now, before I get to our witnesses, we have been joined this morning by Senator Stevens, our friend from Alaska. Let me turn to him and see if he has any opening comments or opening statements.
