King Arthur, mortally wounded by Mordred at the battle of Camlann, lies hidden beyond the mists of Avalon, lovingly tended by ladies of the lake. The dazzling but short-lived glory of Arthur's kingdom is no more. The sacred circle of the Round Table has been broken, and the quest for the Grail is over. Merlin the Wise, who had fled for refuge to the forests of Caledonia after Arthur's fall, has returned south and made his home on the hill of Manstone Mynd. Companions have gathered around him: Taliesin the royal bard, Nimue of the Lake, Mother Ganieda, Dindrane of the loving heart, and Maeldin of the healing spring. Merlin's task as seer, mage and prophet seems to be over - or is it? Has his work ended, or has it only just begun?

First published in 1925 THE OLD STRAIGHT TRACK remains the most important source for the study of ancient tracks or leys that criss-cross the British Isles- a fascinating system which was old when the Romans came to Britain. First in the Herefordshire countryside, and later throughout Britain, Alfred Watkins noticed that beacon hills, mounds, earthworks, moats and old churches built on pagan sites seemed to fall in straight lines. His investigation convinced him that Britain was covered with a vast network of straight tracks, aligned with either the sun or the path of a star. Although traces of this network can be found all over the country, the principles behind the ley system remain a mystery. Are they the legacy of a prehistoric scientific knowledge which is now all but lost? And was their purpose secular or religious?

The V Force consisted of three four-jet bombers, the Valiant, the Vulcan and the Victor, all required as part of the nuclear deterrent in the Cold War following the end of the Second World War. The Valiant was less aerodynamically advanced than the other two and went into service in 1955. The Vulcan entered service in 1956 and the Victor a year later. The Valiant finished operating in 1965 and the Vulcan in 1984. The later Victors were converted into refueling tankers and carried on until 1993. V Force Boys contains a fascinating collection of previously unpublished stories by V Force ground and aircrew for all three V bombers. Among other highlights, the book includes a firsthand account of dropping the last UK H Bomb, a description of how all the aircraft navigated before the days of GPS, the training the crews received and an armorer’s account of how the nuclear weapons were moved with complete safety but not in the regimented way that might be expected. In addition there are chapters which tell of incidents that would not be found in the RAF historical annals but show how the vigilant guarding of the UK had its lighter moments. A must for all Vulcan, Victor and Valiant enthusiasts.
