Without authority from God; that this authority could only be obtained in an immediate and extraordinary commission from Heaven, and then immediate and extraordi nary works must be produced to prove it, for God never re qmres his ireatures to believe that which he has not given them evidence to be'leve or it must be obtainedby a_succes sion. To pretend to work miracles, or to produce extraor dinary works was ridiculous and min to claim a succession, authentic documents must be produced to prove it; and this could only be done in the Episcopal churt h, which included the Greek. Latin, Eiiglish, -and other churches, but nor the dis senters from the church of England. Many very able, and pious menand women were among them, but I could not be satisfied. That by their separation from the government, doc trine, and worship of the universal church, they had gained anything which was honorable to God, or useful to mankind; for in the Episcopal church they might be as able.
