What would you say of a girl who is 18, healthy, bubbling with life, writhing in pain, brimming with expectation, seeking life in all its myriad hues, hurt, hardships and happy moments? Now, after four decades and richness of experience, she is presenting this ode to the Indian working woman, young mothers, wives, professionals and home makers. These poems are songs of faith, hope, redemption and resurrection. The author sincerely hopes this book shall offer solace and sustenance to navigate the trials and twists in your life at home and at work. `They need your love the most when they seem to deserve it the least’ and ‘In the depths of a severe harsh winter I discovered invincible summer’ are two of the author’s favorite pick-me-ups. Navigating relationships, child care, elderly care, meeting deadlines and establishing a work-life balance, being good to oneself and making life beautiful with moral values and faith in self, family and loved ones intact has been her ethos and ethic, her art and aesthetic in her romance with life. Happy Reading!

A deadly new weapon may change the nature of war forever in this fifth installment in the Nobles series War cares little for the troubles of the aristocracy—as a motley crew of nobles and commoners, humans and other creatures are about to find out. Though the city states of Sumbria and Colletro, warring regions of the Blade Kingdom, have reached a truce, the battle is not yet over. As a terrible new weapon obliterates the age of courtly battle, an intelligent princess with burgeoning magical powers—along with an addled young inventor and kleptomaniac firebird—finds herself forced into a battle for survival in a world far deadlier than the one she has known.

"Style has often been understood both too broadly and too narrowly. In consequence, it has not defined a psychologically coherent area of study. In the opening chapter, Hogan first defines style so as to make possible a consistent and systematic theoretical account of the topic in relation to cognitive and affective science. Hogan illustrates the main points of the first, theoretical chapter by reference to several works, prominently Woolf's Mrs. Dalloway. Subsequent chapters in Part I focus on some under-researched aspects of literary style. Specifically, the second chapter explores the level of story construction for the scope of an authorial canon, treating Shakespeare. The third chapter turns to verbal narration in a single work, Faulkner's As I Lay Dying. Part II, on film style, begins with a theoretical chapter on film style. It turns, in chapter 5, to the perceptual interface in the genre of "painterly" films (films that draw on stylistic features of other visual arts), examining works by Rodriguez, Mehta, Rohmer, and Husain. The sixth chapter treats the level of plot in the postwar films of Ozu. The remaining film chapter turns to visual narration in a single work, Lu's Nanjing! Nanjing! The third part comprises a single chapter. It addresses theoretical and interpretive issues bearing on style in graphic fiction, with a focus on Spiegelman's Maus. An Afterword touches briefly on some possible implications of stylistic analysis for political critique"--

Using iPods or portable CD players, millions of people take their music with them every day to modify their daily experiences. Encased in headphones, they listen to music for entertainment, but also use it, among other things, as a buffer between themselves and the world outside, and to manage their moods. What is it about music that makes it useful in different ways to so many people? Have people always used music in these ways, or only since the technology of the Walkman and then the mp3 player made music portable? In this wide-ranging exploration of how and why we use portable music, Andrew Williams sheds new light on the role music plays in our everyday lives. Portable Music and Its Functions will be of use to students and scholars of sociology and cultural studies as well as of musicology.
