This publication presents a framework for Commonwealth Principles on Promoting Good Governance and Combating Corruption. It was endorsed by Heads of Government at their Summit in Durban in 1999 as the basis for pursuing concerted strategies based on "zero tolerance" for all types of corruption at national and global levels. This publication includes the full report of the Expert Group. It examines the nature of corruption and its different dimensions as well as appropriate responses to the problems it poses. The book proposes actions at national and international levels which the Group sees as being necessary if countries are to successfully combat corruption and promote good governance.
This volume engages with the renewed focus on various forms of persisting and new marginalities in globalising India. The persistence of hunger in pockets of India; forcible land acquisitions and their impact on deprived sections of society; the effects of urban relocations; material deprivation of minority groups and tribes as a result of conflicts; continuing caste discrimination; reported cases of atrocities against lower castes and tribes; regional disparities; gendered forms of exclusion and those related to disability and many other conditions suggest the need to rethink notions and practices of marginality and exclusion in India. This volume critiques the principal ways of thinking about marginalities, which primarily consist of a focus on normative principles, and brings into focus the chasm between such principles and subjective notions and experiences of marginality and injustice. While the tone of the book is generally academic, Brad does note that he has written the book for those cherished friends who have suffered - some to the point of suicide attempts - as a result of living with their homosexuality.Sometimes the amount of information is overwhelming - whether it is intellectual or emotional - but making the information easily accessible is an important contribution of this book.Brad concludes this way:"I anticipate that my views as expressed in this book will change over time as I learn more. "I Never Thought I Would Lose a Case," says Guy T.
