Even though New Madrid was organized in 1805, these marriage records begin with the first two books on file in the office of the county recorder. There is a gap in the marriage records of New Madrid County and is probably accounted for by that at one time the records were kept in various buildings and some of the buildings burned. The researcher will also discover that due to New Madrid's geographical location in the Most Southeastern corner of the State, along the Mississippi River, that you will find some Kentucky and Tennessee marriages being mixed within those of New Madrid County.
