Excerpt from Little Talks on School Management I AM asked to write a f ore-word for this little volume, and I scarcely know what to say. It seems to me to be a bootless task; for, in the guilty knowledge that I seldom read a Preface, I imagine that the ma jority of readers are like myself and are more anxious to know what the author has to say in the intentional part of the work that is the real occasion for the publica tion. There is an obj ect in the pages which follow, and you are at liberty to drop this and turn to them at once. In them I have striven to give briefly a history of the things that helped me in my work as a primary teacher, and I have striven to make the talks practical and also inspi rational. All but one of the chapters, or divisions, of the little book have been pub lished in the pages of educational periodi cals, and I am happy to say that I have received commendation for them from teachers of experience, as well as from.
