DOWNLOAD EBOOKDavid Garrick was an English actor, playwright, theatre manager and producer who influenced nearly all aspects of theatrical practice throughout the 18th century. After a successful first engagement with the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, Garrick spent five years with the Drury Lane company. With the purchase of a share of the theatre Garrick began his 29 years of management of the Drury Lane, during which time it rose to prominence as one of the leading theatres in Europe. These three volumes contain 1,360 letters - more than half of them hitherto unpublished - in a handsome edition where they are treated with scrupulous and scholarly care by the editors. They will undoubtedly provide an invaluable source for future researchers into numerous aspects of eighteenth-century life, and more particularly into the life of David Garrick, the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, and the English stage.
