This book is open access under a CC BY-NC 2.5 license. This book portrays men’s experiences of home alone leave and how it affects their lives and family gender roles in different policy contexts and explores how this unique parental leave design is implemented in these contrasting policy regimes. The book brings together three major theoretical strands: social policy, in particular the literature on comparative leave policy developments; family and gender studies, in particular the analysis of gendered divisions of work and care and recent shifts in parenting and work-family balance; critical studies of men and masculinities, with a specific focus on fathers and fathering in contemporary western societies and life-courses. Drawing on empirical data from in-depth interviews with fathers across eleven countries, the book shows that the experiences and social processes associated with fathers’ home alone leave involve a diversity of trends, revealing both innovations and absence of change, including pluralization as well as the constraining influence of policy, gender, and social context. As a theoretical and empirical book it raises important issues on modernization of the life course and the family in contemporary societies. The book will be of particular interest to scholars in comparing western societies and welfare states as well as to scholars seeking to understand changing work-life policies and family life in societies with different social and historical pathways.
The effusive memorial service has come to a solemn end. The mournful congregation of family and friends gather outside of the ominous doors of the funeral home. They weep deeply, hearing the sound of the hearse door being slammed shut, signifying the end of life. They take that tear-filled ride in the motorcade to the cemetery plot. The lowering of the casket into the grave is all that is left of a life once lived! They say their last goodbyes. Your loved one is gone forever...or are they? In this factual and mind-provoking book, you will read a myriad of absolutely true paranormal events, strange coincidences, hauntings, and some most mysterious occurrences. Every story has been the personal or shared experience of the author, and she is excited to share them with you. From her personal collection of recollections, this series evokes intrigue and mystery when it comes to the supernatural events that have become commonplace for Sherry in her everyday life. For Sherry, when it comes to ghosts or spirits, paranormal readings, premonitions, seeing the past or the future, or communicating with the dead, these are all just part of having the sixth sense, otherwise known as being clairvoyant. These stories reveal the many times Sherry has been contacted by the dearly departed, that their voices be heard, to deliver messages to the living. In some cases, spirits who have reached out were not always known to the living, but acknowledgment of their presence was still very necessary. In other cases, souls are just lost and cannot find their way to their heaven. Sometimes there were very frightening experiences, and other times, the experiences were coming from a place of love and desperation. You will also read about the results of paranormal encounters and also how delivering divine messages has forever impacted the recipients. Sherry has delivered many messages to people of many different faiths and cultures. She believes that she has been entrusted to be of divine service for this most precious undertaking. Sherry has this to say about faith: "Faith is believing when common sense tells you not to." Sherry's only hope is to be of service to those who suffer, and that includes the living and the dead. There is a favorite quote that Sherry loves to share. It was written by Herbert Spencer under the "Spiritual Experience" from the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous, which can be applied to just about any circumstance in life: "There is a principle which is a bar against all information, which is proof against all arguments, and which cannot fail to keep a man in everlasting ignorance--that principle is contempt prior to investigation."
