Entrepreneur and Adventurer Ranulf Rayner has kept detailed scrapbooks for most of his life, including letters and photographs from when he was first at school. His life has been an extraordinary one, starting with escaping from his pram. Subsequently expelled from five schools, he later managed to win his spurs as a regular officer in the British cavalry—managing, soon after joining his regiment, to write off a fifty-ton tank. In the army, he also earned to fly helicopters, which while serving, he put to good use by directing the winter sports scenes for the James Bond film OHMSS. After leaving the army, he travelled 75,000 miles around the globe selling helicopters, which took him from an unexplored region of New Guinea—where they had never seen a white man before—to the swamps of Pantanal in Brazil’s Mato Grosso, looking for an Englishman with the same name as an explorer known to have been killed earlier by Indians in the rain forests of Amazon. Readers will find his further exploits equally astonishing for he refers back to some of his more desperate moments while flying light aircraft, climbing mountains, riding the Cresta toboggan run, and surviving a disastrous shipwreck, followed by starting up thirteen unique and entirely different businesses. Most of these moments are recorded in one hundred of Ranulf’s letters to key people, including two prime ministers and the archbishop of Canterbury, which have not been replied to, except with the odd acknowledgment. He wrote his hundredth letter to Donald Trump. He adds some intriguing images and an interesting commentary, but the reason why his letters were not answered is often left for the reader to decide.

Buried Nazi treasure, intelligence tradecraft, assassination methods, romance, tragedy and an unsolved mystery are all a part of this novel. Lunersee: The story has elements of truth throughout. In April 1945 in the closing months of World War II in Europe, many Nazis and SS officers were going into hiding or attempting to flee to the Mideast or South America. Some SS officers who were at the Nazi detah camp at Dachau accumulated much gold, melted down from teeth of the prisoners, and other valuables. There were some officers who fled Dachau with several containers of gold, precious stones and other valuables and eventually buried it at Lunersee, near the Austrian-Swiss border. They then crossed over into Switzerland, planning on returning someday to reclaim it. The story then becomes more complicated with the involvement of American Intelligence, Israeli intelligence (MOSSAD), Arab terrorists and the returning ex-Nazis. It is not just a hodge-podge of incidents thrown together but an actual fitting together of a series of events culminating in an "explosive ending" and a surprise outcome in Lugano Switzerland. The story has already been reviewed by the Central Intelligence Agency. The reviewers all were impressed by its authenticity insofar as tradecraft is concerned. Many characters in the story actually existed and "the gold is still there."

13 Moons over Vietnam—1st Moon: Innocence Why another memoir on Vietnam? There are already hundreds of publications on the Vietnam War. 13 Moons over Vietnam captures a unique perspective of a soldier’s experience of war, juxtaposing more than 150 stories between the lines of 280 uncensored letters to his wife, who was pregnant with their first child. These stories, describing actual experiences, are conveyed with raw emotions of anxiety and fear, refuting the nonchalant tone of his correspondence home. The effect is a stark and unsettling contrast between what is written home and what actually happens. 13 Moons over Vietnam is organized as a series segmented by lunar cycles that symbolize the author’s struggles with identity and faith as he confronts progressive incidents of social and emotional violence. Begin with 1st Moon: Innocence, and witness a metamorphosis that spirals through a moral and spiritual minefield.

The year is 1843 and after the Disruption in the Church of Scotland James Bantrie finds himself dismissed from his comfortable life, like many dissident clergy members, and obliged to seek employment elsewhere. James and his family move to a small parish on the island of Orchy off the Argyll coast where the inhabitants are engaged in quarrying slate rock. Alexander Beaton, a young doctor, has returned home to Eisdalsa expecting to inherit his father’s medical practice only to find his elder brother has already secured not only the practice but also the hand of Alexander’s childhood sweetheart. With his aspirations for both marriage and career thwarted, Alexander responds to an advertisement for settlers in the newly established colony of Otago in the South Island of New Zealand. Appointed ship’s surgeon for the voyage he is surprised to find James Bantrie and family, together with the recently widowed Jessie Dundas and her son Tommy, amongst the passengers. The voyage is not without incident and the Otago settlement in the new town of Dunedin is far from ready to receive further settlers. Many trials await the newcomers before they can truly call themselves citizens of their new homeland.
