This book is a collection of short stories which fictionalizes history - the 16th to the19th century of Spanish rule and Christianity in Philippines - as a means to explore religious faith and cultural difference and tells the stories of different characters during the Spanish era of colonial rule far from the mother country ruled by the Governor Generals appointed by the King of Spain to represent the state and the Bishop representing the Friars who originally help bring the natives into the fold and a constant battle between church and state kept the country under siege most of the time.

Rebecca Ruter Springer (1832–1904) was an American author. Springer began writing and publishing verses at a young age, and wrote for a number of notable publications during her adulthood. In her most notable work, “Intra Muros”―better known today as “My Dream of Heaven”―Springer recounts a vision of the Christian heaven that she had while offering her own insights into its nature and meaning. This vintage book is highly recommended for those with an interest in Christian mysticism and would make for a worthy addition to collections of related literature.

This book explains and illustrates how Indonesia as the largest and most populous country in Southeast Asia can become independent of fossil fuels by both reducing its energy needs and using renewable resources. A study presented in this work focuses on the Maluku Archipelago in eastern Indonesia with Ambon as its capital. Conventional energy is brought to the islands over long distances by partly simple means as boats, ships and aircrafts. This unsustainable situation calls for a decentralized renewable energy supply strategy. Based on the research presented in this book, it is clear that the archipelago has the potential to become a so-called plus-minus region. Plus-minus regions are regions that produce more renewable energy than they need and capture more CO2 than they emit. The authors are convinced that the presented strategy illustrated on the Maluku Archipelago can be transferred to other regions of the world and that only by developing plus-minus regions the international 2°C climate goal can be achieved. The model region thus serves as proof that the plus-minus target can also be achieved in emerging countries with limited financial resources.

Written as a travelogue, Surface Collection: Archaeological Travels in Southeast Asia tackles the most pressing issues of cultural-heritage management in an engaging and accessible way. In each chapter the author makes the past relevant to the present through his encounters with archaeological sites. While the book's anecdotes are associated primarily with Thailand and Indonesia--from a decaying National Museum in Manila, to the search for traces of the thousands of Communists who were killed after an attempted coup in Bali, to the discovery of a bottle of perfume found among the personal effects of Indonesian ex-president Sukarno--they have broad international interest because of the issues they raise. These archaeological stories, again and again, remind us what history both remembers and conceals.
