This dissertation's self-scaling benchmark seeks to measure and report relevant workloads for a wide range of input/output systems. To do so, it scales aspects of its workload to account for the differences in I/O systems. For example, it dynamically discovers the size of the system's file cache and reports how performance varies both in and out of the file cache. The general approach taken is to scale based on the range of workloads the system performs well.
The national information infrastructure (NII) holds the promise of connecting people of all ages and descriptionsâ€"bringing them opportunities to interact with businesses, government agencies, entertainment sources, and social networks. Whether the NII fulfills this promise for everyone depends largely on interfacesâ€"technologies by which people communicate with the computing systems of the NII. More Than Screen Deep addresses how to ensure NII access for every citizen, regardless of age, physical ability, race/ethnicity, education, ability, cognitive style, or economic level. FoLLI-LNCS is the publication platform for the Association of Logic, Language and Information (FoLLI, www.folli.org). The Association was founded in 1991 to advance research and education on the interface between logic, linguistics, computer science, and cognitive science. The FoLLI Publications on Logic, Language and Information aim to disseminate results of cutting-edge research and tutorial materials in these interdisciplinary areas. This LNCS volume is part of FoLLi book serie and contains the papers presented at the 5th International Workshop on Logic, Rationality and Interaction/ (LORI-V), held in October 2015 in Taipei, Taiwan.
