The seventh session of the Sub-Committee on Aquaculture of the FAO Committee on Fisheries (COFI) was held in St. Petersburg, the Russian Federation, from 7 to 11 October 2013 at the kind invitation of the Government of the Russian Federation. It was atttended by 51 members of FAO and by observers from six intergovernmental and four international non-governmental organizations. Several working documents were presented by the Secretariat for information, discussion and decision by the Sub-Committee. The Sub-Committee approved the draft terms of reference for an advisory working group on aquatic genetic resources and technologies and the draft evaluation framework assessing conformity of public and private certification schemes with the FAO technical guidelines on aquaculture certification. A special event on strengthening international cooperation for accelerating sustainable aquaculture development was also held. This document contains the report of the session adopted by the Sub-Committee.

El presente documento contiene el informe de la cuarta reunión del Grupo de trabajo establecido por las Partes en virtud de la Parte 6 (Grupo de trabajo previsto en la Parte 6) del Acuerdo sobre medidas del Estado rector del puerto (MERP) destinadas a prevenir, desalentar y eliminar la pesca ilegal, no declarada y no reglamentada (pesca INDNR), que se celebró en Roma (Italia), el 4 de abril de 2023. El Grupo de trabajo previsto en la Parte 6 debatió acerca de las necesidades de los Estados en desarrollo con respecto a la aplicación del Acuerdo sobre MERP y formuló recomendaciones específicas en esferas prioritarias para la asistencia técnica y el desarrollo de la capacidad. Asimismo, examinó el estado de la aplicación del mandato de los mecanismos de financiación establecidos en virtud de lo dispuesto en la Parte 6 del Acuerdo sobre MERP, y señaló la necesidad de incrementar la financiación destinada a ayudar a los Estados en desarrollo a aplicar el Acuerdo, entre otras cosas mediante: i) contribuciones asignadas destinadas a la FAO para proyectos y programas específicos; ii) contribuciones al Fondo fiduciario multilateral de asociados establecido en virtud de lo dispuesto en la Parte 6 del Acuerdo sobre MERP y administrado por la FAO.
