From the award nominated poet and author of Shedding Light From My Journeys, Stardust Tracks on a Road, Ten Marbles and a Bag to Put Them In: Poems for Childrens, comes a new volume of powerful, inspirational poetry. Goddess Under the Bridge, DuEwa Frazier's fourth poetry collection, is a meditation on the beautiful, the ugly, the passion, the struggle and reflection of the inner goddess. The poems pay homage to Alice Coltrane, Suzan Lori Parks, Lucille Clifton and other notable artists. Frazier's words shake and shout, rant and conjure moving and familiar images from the past, present and future of one's waking life. "DuEwa Frazier offers more than glossy words. The strength and beauty of all women-resonates like a Coltrane solo in her meditations. The precious metal of her poetry has arrived." -Truth Thomas, Poet and Author of Speak Water

What started out, a half century ago, to be a chase down historys trail to discover the origin of a silver sculpture of a man and his dog plasticized around a copper armature turned out to be a chase of the history of mankind itself. The writer has brought to light of day, a reasoned documented analysis of the unbroken chain of seemingly isolated facts, obscure data and wove them into a tapestry or painted a word picture of where man has been. The quest for the man, the sculptor, and his culture became a time traveled beyond the normal bounds of inquiry.

Buddhism introduced many Hindu Gods and Goddesses to the Japanese. The rulers were the first to be attracted to them. Historical records show that they earnestly believed in the miracles of these divinities promised in the sutras. Many miracle stories started appearing in popular literature as the divinities percolated down to the masses. The resulting naturalisation process in the case of some divinities went to the extent that they became an integral part of the native Shinto pantheon. Their popularity remains unabated even today. The Tantric Buddhist sects also played a vital role in propagating the divinities. They regularly worshipped the divinities in their temples where people thronged in large numbers. Many steps in these ceremonies, for instance, the homa ritual, are very familiar to the present-day Hindus. The monks have also produced a considerable volume of religious literature related to these divinities. Descriptions of many divinities show that they have not changed substantially over centuries. A study of these writings also shows that a large volume of Hindu myths and legends related to these deities were transmitted to Japan. These writings are also a testimony to the way the ancestors of the present-day Hindus thought about these deities, say, around the eighth or ninth century of the Christian era.
