The classic conception of human transcendental consciousness assumes its self-supporting existential status within the horizon of life-world, nature and earth. Yet this assumed absoluteness does not entail the nature of its powers, neither their constitutive force. This latter call for an existential source reaching beyond the generative life-world network. Transcendental consciousness, having lost its absolute status (its point of reference) it is the role of the logos to lay down the harmonious positioning in the cosmic sphere of the all, establishing an original foundation of phenomenology in the primogenital ontopoiesis of life.

This dictionary provides a valency description of English verbs, nouns and adjectives. Each entry contains a comprehensive list of the complementation patterns identified on the basis of the largest corpus of English available at the present time. All examples are taken directly from the COBUILD/Birmingham corpus. The valency description comprises statements about the quantitative valency of the lexical units established, an inventory of their obligatory, contextually optional and purely optional complements as well as systematic information on the semantic and collocational properties of the complements. An outline of the model of valency theory used in this dictionary is provided in the introduction.

"Second Language Acquisition in a Study Abroad Context" brings together for the first time a series of studies which explore the relationship between language learning and the study abroad experience. Utilizing different research methodologies (quantitative, qualitative, descriptive), the focus in this collection is on various aspects of second language learning, including the acquisition of sociolinguistic competence, the acquisition of fluency, the use of communicative strategies and the development of oral and written skills. The studies are cross-linguistic and deal with student populations at the secondary and college levels who spent between three months and one year in study abroad or exchange programs in Japan, Russia, Spain, Mexico, France or Canada.

The case grammar model is essentially a description of predicates and the arguments required by the meaning of those predicates in the semantic description of sentences. By probing into semantic structures, case systems can relate one surface structure to many semantic structures and one semantic structure to many surface structures. It is in the area of explaining paraphrase and ambiguity that the model is able to establish relationships which cannot be established on the basis of syntax alone. Yet these semantic realities have important syntactic correlates and help to reveal regularities not otherwise apparent. This volume contains thirteen papers, published between 1970 and 1978, which trace the development of the case grammar matrix model, its relation to tagmemics, generative semantics, and interpretive semantics, and its application to such areas as the analysis of literature and stylistics -- Page 4 of cover.

We are living in a stressful world, yet despite our familiarity with the notion, stress remains an elusive concept. In The Age of Stress, Mark Jackson explores the history of scientific studies of stress in the modern world. In particular, he reveals how the science that legitimates and fuels current anxieties about stress has been shaped by a wide range of socio-political and cultural, as well as biological, factors: stress, he argues, is both a condition and a metaphor. In order to understand the ubiquity and impact of stress in our own times, or to explain how stress has commandeered such a central place in the modern imagination, Jackson suggests that we need to comprehend not only the evolution of the medical science and technology that has gradually uncovered the biological pathways between stress and disease in recent decades, but also the shifting social, economic, and cultural contexts that have invested that scientific knowledge with meaning and authority. In particular, he argues, we need to acknowledge the manner in which enduring concerns about the effects of stress on mental and physical health are the product of broader historical preoccupations with the preservation of personal and political, as well as physiological, stability.

Art Altstetten Albisrieden is published on the occasion of an exhibition project of the same name held in Zurich in summer 2015. Inviting more than 30 artists to present works in the public space, the manifestation takes as a point of departure the urban transformation of two traditional Zurich neighborhoods. Altstetten and Albisrieden were small villages at the beginning of the 20th century and developed popular cooperative housing. Now these villages are undergoing rapid transformation as the city of Zurich is growing fast. Altstetten and Albisrieden have long been very popular as studio addresses for artists such as Fischli/Weiss, Carl Bucher and Pipilotti Rist, but they are gradually losing their original charm. The publication includes contributions by Nico Anklam, Ursula Badrutt, Vanessa Bersis, Konrad Bitterli, Kate Brown, Clifford E. Bruckmann, Georgina Casparis, Christoph Doswald, Elisabeth Gerber, Isabel Hanstein, Ute Christiane Hoefert, Brigitte Huck, Aline Juchler, Damian Jurt, Ferial Nadja Karrasch, Florian Keller, Caroline Kesser, David Killian, Max Küng, Katarina Kurcubic, Werner Müller, Aoife Rosenmeyer, Ingeborg Ruthe, Sabine Maria Schmidt, Sascha Serfözö, L.
