The average royalty taken upon the tons shipped was cents per ton. Upon the tons of freshly mined coal shipped by collieries, not including washeries, the average royalty was 4212545, cents per ton, and upon the 34,027fi tons from culm banks shipped by washeries, it was 1211015 cents per ton. The coal shipped to market in the thirty-six years during which coal has been mined under mining leases from the City of Phila delphia, Trustee under the Will of Stephen Girard, from 1863 to 1898 inclusive, has been tons. The coal consumed in the operation of the collieries, in gener ating steam for the running of engines used in hoisting and hauling coal and material, in pumping water and in ventilating the mines, mostly coal of the smallest size, was in the year 1898, tons, equal to per cent of the coal shipped to market.
