How dear these were to him then, may be found in the inspired record. Earnest ly and thrice he prayed, that if it were possi ble the bitter cup might pass from him. This was not possible, unless, at that awful moment, he had given up the work of man's redemption. But in this mighty work, he yielded not, he faltered not. For the joy that was set before him he endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
