DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe goal of this research study was to assess and address the implications of the axle load spectra approach proposed by the M-E Design Guide. In addition, recommendations were developed regarding traffic data needs and availability to aid in deciding the installation locations of future WIM stations in Texas. A methodology for specifying the required accuracy of WIM equipment based on the effect that this accuracy has on pavement performance prediction was also developed. Regarding traffic volume forecasting, a methodology is presented that allows optimum use of available data by simultaneously estimating traffic growth and seasonal traffic variability.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKFor a given road segment, accurate estimates of current and projected traffic [in terms of Equivalent Single Axle Loads (ESALs)] can result in significant cost savings, either from the standpoint of initial construction cost or future maintenance and rehabilitation cost. The primary objective of this project is to prepare a new ESAL design table for Arizona's highway network. This new table is based on analysis of current traffic data collection procedures, traffic forecasting methodology, and ESAL development procedures, including the assignment of traffic ESAL levels to the various highway segments.
