DOWNLOAD EBOOKThis Checklist brings together for the first time the names of all 2620 described species of mites that are known to occur in Australia. It gives the correct nomenclature for each species, and places every species in the appropriate genus and family, using the latest available classification. The Checklist also provides a bibliography of information on biogeography, economic importance and, in the case of pests, biology and control. This work is a baseline from which more detailed and specific research projects will draw their fundamental data.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKConcerns about global biodiversity are rising dramatically, yet we are lagging behind in the most basic prerequisite for its understanding and conservation: the inventory. Insect species may make up five or ten times the number of all other plant and animal species combined, and, as such, they represent one of the major challenges in biosystematic science. World Catalogue of Insects is an initiative aimed at compiling worldscale, authoritative catalogues of monophyletic insect taxa. Volumes in this series contain standard nomenclatoral information on all names pertaining to the taxon treated, including type locality and distribution, to the extent this is relevant. Additional information is optional, e. g., location, status, and condition of types; biology; bibliographical information; pest status; vector status; etc. This volume ten focuses on Psychidae (Lepidoptera). DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe noctuidae of the world, a family with numerous important agricultural pests, comprises about a third of the entire order Lepidoptera. This new three-volume set is the first complete catalog for the world. About 38,000 named species (including known synonyms) are listed alphabetically under each genus name in over 1,000 pages of text. Genera area also listed alphabetically, but subfamily affiliations are noted for each of the valid names to enable users to segregate genera by subfamily. Valid names are noted in boldface. Synonyms are listed for each genus and species; the species synonyms are also listed alphabetically among the valid names, thus enabling users to make two kinds of searches in the text as well as in the index. The catalog provides citation data on all described names (other than infraspecific names), with references cited in the compete bibliography at the end. Reference is also made to more important papers on the biology, larvae, host plants, and illustrations for each species, again with full titles noted in the bibliography. The main host plants for each species, where known, are listed under each. Details of holotypes, where known, are also noted. The bibliography has entries for approximately 4,400 papers.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe Phytoseiidae are among the best-known mite families, with more than 2,700 recorded species worldwide. Some of those phytoseiids are used as biocontrol agents to fight agricultural pests. But in order to study their potential, it has become urgent to first establish a reliable taxonomy of Phytoseiidae. This book presents a general review of the classification and external morphology of the family Phytoseiidae in Taiwan and neighboring islands. Between 2009 and 2019, more than 20,000 specimens were gathered over the course of 2,500 collections. This book focuses on 64 species belonging to three subfamilies and fourteen genera, among which are five novel species and eight newly-recorded species; it provides their descriptions and illustrations, as well as information on their habitat plants and food habits.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKHoverflies of the Northwest Europe is an updated edition with revisions to the text. It identifies the hoverflies of Northwest Europe and incorporates the knowledge that has been published in many articles over the past decades. The book covers 500 species - nearly two thirds of the known European syrphid fauna. The main body of the book consists of dichotomous keys to all the hoverfly species found in the region, richly illustrated with drawings that show details as well as whole flies. • What are hoverflies and how are they to distinguish from bees, wasps and other bees • Where are they found? (forests, woodlands, marshes, peatlands and bogs, meadows, grasslands, gardens • When is the best time to find and see hoverflies? • Collecting and preservering specimens • Early stages (eggs and larvae) • How to use this book? • The hoverfly body • Identification keys to the genera and 500 species of Northwest Europe • richly illustrated with drawings that show details as well as whole flies
