For the fact that God is great, you and I can in no other way, be any different. Gods hand of greatness is upon us this very moment. Dont worry, he has our back, today, tomorrow, and forever, so let us put 100% of our faith in him, for any and everything is already done in his name. How did a girl from the provinces, meant to do nothing more than run the family store, become a bold and daring poet whose life and work helped change the idea of love in modern Japan? Embracing the Firebird is the first book-length study in English of the early life and work of Yosano Akiko (1879-1942), the most famous post-classical woman poet of Japan. It follows Akiko, who was born into a merchant family in the port city of Sakai near Osaka, from earliest childhood to her twenties, charting the slow process of development before the seemingly sudden metamorphosis. Akiko's later poetry has now begun to win long-overdue recognition, but in terms of literary history the impact of Midaregami (Tangled Hair, 1901), her first book, still overshadows everything else she wrote, for it brought individualism to traditional tanka poetry with a tempestuous force and passion found in no other work of the period. Embracing the Firebird traces Akiko's emotional and artistic development up to the publication of this seminal work, which became a classic of modern Japanese poetry and marked the starting point of Akiko's forty-year-long career as a writer. It then examines Tangled Hair itself, the characteristics that make it a unified work of art, and its originality. The study throughout includes Janine Beichman's elegant translations of poems by Yosano Akiko (both those included in Tangled Hair and those not), as well as poems by contemporaries such as Yosano Tekkan, Yamakawa Tomiko, and others.

Allison Gregory Daniels has been performing in the areas of television, radio and stage for several years. She debuted her first poetry and inspirational book signing at Adelia's Restaurant in Takoma Park, Md in 1999. Allison G. Daniels is a native Washingtonian. She received her early education from the D.C. public school systems. She has been captivated by poetry virtually all of her life and has been writing poetry since age eleven. She is the author of 10 collection of poetry books, 'Revitalizing Your Spirit", 'Black Man I Love You", 'Yearning For Love", 'Jesus A Joy To Call My Own". and an inspirational book entitled, 'Facing Tomorrow". Over the past few years, she has authored over 1000 poems and had several published. She is also a Distinguished Member of the International Society of poets and was elected into the International Poetry Hall of Fame on March 3, 1997. Her poems have been well-published throughout the United States. Mrs. Daniels poems were created for the purpose of healing and comforting the spirit by means of expressive art poems. These poems are used in pictorial designs and appear on T-shirts, book marks, and greeting cards. Allison enjoys sharing messages of hope and love through her poetry. She has dedicated her life to the art of poetry. She has also donated several of her poems to the local newspapers throughout the Washington D.C. area. She envisions a progressive Christian and counseling center that will enable the youth of today and tomorrow to grow and develop spiritually and creatively.
