DOWNLOAD EBOOKJian Leng's dissertation takes as its starting point the model of Hallam Movius devised in the 1940s to explain the production and distribution of stone tools in Asia and the presence of a technological boundary separating the east from the west (Africa and Europe). This re-assessment of the model focuses on lithic assemblages form eight sites (5 in China and 3 in India), including details of the assemblages from these sites, replication and classification systems. The results of this study are found to contradict Movius' model and are linked more generally to cognitive ability and subsistence strategies.
