This condition, it would seem, shows most conclusively the immediate need of the situation, and as a practical solution I wish to call attention to the plan of reorganization that is being adopted by the Illinois State Dental Association, full details of which in all their--practical and ethical bearings may be found in an article by Arthur D. Black, December Digest, page 1,450. This clearly outlined plan to combine the entire organized forces of the State should appeal to all, and particularly since it is not a step in the dark, but is based on a plan similar to that adopted and being carried out by the Medical Association of that State, on which it has been working for a number of years--long enough to show. its entire practicability, and to change a weak, incoherent aggregation of State, district, and local societies into a compact, strong, and effective organization of 5,000 members, and still growing. What the medical and other organizations are doing may we not also accomplish--we who are laboring under the same conditiolls, have the same' inbred capacity for organization, and kindred interests at stake? For this reason I have brought the matter before you, trusting that each of us would resolve himself into an earnest committee of one to bring the work before his respective. societies, and push it energetically until every reputable practitioner has been aroused to the possibilities of the times, and becomes a factor of progressive dentistry.
