DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe purpose of this cross-sectional correlational quantitative study was to assess the relationship between adult day care caregivers' cultural competence and Chinese elderly participants' satisfaction regarding culturally and linguistically appropriate services. Thirty caregivers from two centers took a cultural competence assessment while 81 elderly participants answered a patient satisfaction questionnaire. Study findings indicate all cultural variables strongly correlate to total competency level. The results suggest cultural competency does not differ at group level. Significant evidence supports positive correlation between participant satisfaction with experience of care, in particular, relating to caregivers' linguistic competence. The study concluded with recommendations for further research using a larger sample size with additional latent variables at more diverse geographical locations.
