This book discusses the existing management approaches for dealing with changes, namely readiness, maturity, and resilience. Although these concepts have been discussed for several years now, their importance grows when companies must deal with extended changes in economies. The changes are of a different nature: social, technological, and political, and they strongly impact every aspect of economies and companies’ activity. Is it possible to be ready for the changes? Should companies be resilient to disruption? These are the questions the managers are trying to answer, yet they need some support from academics. This book explores the synergy between the state-of-the-art knowledge and experience of companies to create a Contemporary Management Model. The scope of this book covers the methodology with an introduction and discussion of the key ideas and concludes with a presentation of the Contemporary Management Model followed by the practical validation and verification of the model based on case studies. This book is simply about developing the readiness and resilience of resources and processes, especially from a tactical perspective.

This book looks at the process of human cognition and the way complex problems are solved by decomposing them into a list of strategic objectives, before focusing individually on each objective to plan for a tactical solution. This process has been formulated by military planners in the form of the Standard Operating Procedure, by which problem solving is organised into four different stages: deliberation, planning, war meeting and plan execution. This has enabled the development of a methodology for problem solving in a dynamic environment. This is illustrated with the help of a six-case study in chess and prediction of exchange rate movement in a foreign exchange market.

This book compiles recent advances of evolutionary algorithms in dynamic and uncertain environments within a unified framework. The book is motivated by the fact that some degree of uncertainty is inevitable in characterizing any realistic engineering systems. Discussion includes representative methods for addressing major sources of uncertainties in evolutionary computation, including handle of noisy fitness functions, use of approximate fitness functions, search for robust solutions, and tracking moving optimums.

This is an open access book.Management science aims to study the dynamic study of human use of limited resources in management activities to achieve organizational goals: complex and innovative social behavior and its laws. And engineering management refers to the management of important and complex new products, equipment and devices in the process of development, manufacturing and production, and also includes the study and management of technological innovation, technological transformation, transformation, transformation, layout and strategy of industrial engineering technology development. The development or breakthrough of management theory is accompanied by the development and progress of science and technology, and the level of science and technology and the level of management theory in each historical period are mutually adaptive, and it can be said that the progress of science and technology plays an important role in promoting the development of management. At the same time, the rapid development and progress of science and technology give a strong injection to the development of engineering, and provide the possibility for engineering construction can use new technology, new equipment, new technology and new materials. Modern management is an important development direction of management science nowadays. And the use of modern management in engineering has an important role in saving social costs, ensuring project quality, and improving safety awareness and behavior. ICMSEM 2023 will focus on modern management, discuss about the benefits that modernization brings to engineering. ICMSEM 2023 aims to: Develop and advance management science through the study and application of certain issues. Open up new perspectives in the sharing of speakers and inspire the audience to new ways of managing in engineering. Create a forum for sharing, research and exchange at the international level, so that the participants can be informed of the latest research directions, results and contents of management science, which will inspire them to new ideas for research and practice.

Evolutionary Algorithms (EAs) have grown into a mature field of research in optimization, and have proven to be effective and robust problem solvers for a broad range of static real-world optimization problems. Yet, since they are based on the principles of natural evolution, and since natural evolution is a dynamic process in a changing environment, EAs are also well suited to dynamic optimization problems. Evolutionary Optimization in Dynamic Environments is the first comprehensive work on the application of EAs to dynamic optimization problems. It provides an extensive survey on research in the area and shows how EAs can be successfully used to continuously and efficiently adapt a solution to a changing environment, find a good trade-off between solution quality and adaptation cost, find robust solutions whose quality is insensitive to changes in the environment, find flexible solutions which are not only good but that can be easily adapted when necessary. All four aspects are treated in this book, providing a holistic view on the challenges and opportunities when applying EAs to dynamic optimization problems. The comprehensive and up-to-date coverage of the subject, together with details of latest original research, makes Evolutionary Optimization in Dynamic Environments an invaluable resource for researchers and professionals who are dealing with dynamic and stochastic optimization problems, and who are interested in applying local search heuristics, such as evolutionary algorithms.

I am not a born academic. I deliberately joined the ranks of academia at a fairly late stage as a natural progression from my professional career as an executive in what in those days was known as "decision support". My career had begun in the telecom industry before the days of deregulation in what one would call strategic planning and then I moved on to decision support in the field of banking, developing trading room software and risk management systems. As I developed decision support systems for real applications, the more I realized how very dependent these systems are on decision design. I began to question a number of basic business assumptions. I felt increasingly the need to review the way decision support systems were conceived at the time since they not only limited what one could do with computers, but also limited the decision-making capacity of executives. I thus decided to take time out from my professional obligations in order to be able to investigate the 'whys and wherefores' behind decision-making. I experienced yet another disappointment at the beginning of my academic career as I noted the academic research style prevailing in most Business Schools. The academic community was adhering to a type of research methodology based on a single view of the way humans think.

Project Portfolios in Dynamic Environments: Organizing for Uncertainty is a comprehensive report of research that addresses this important, rising issue. Authors Yvan Petit and Brian Hobbs present the results of their investigation in a report that significantly advances the theory and also offers tips for practice. Currently, those applying project portfolio management tend to focus on the selection, prioritization, and strategic alignment of projects. Little attention is afforded the potential disturbances to project portfolios such as new projects, terminated projects, delayed projects, incorrect planning due to high uncertainty, and changes in the external environment. Yet, these factors can have highly disruptive, even show-stopping influence. This research seeks to answer: How is uncertainty affecting project portfolios managed in dynamic environments?
