DOWNLOAD EBOOKThis 1999 reference grammar, written for advanced students of French, their teachers, and others who want a better understanding of the French language, combines the best of modern and traditional approaches. Its objective is not only practical mastery of the language, but familiarity with its structure. Taking into account modern linguistic research, Advanced French Grammar approaches the French language primarily through the study of syntactic structures, but without excessive emphasis on formalism. It provides a generous number of examples, based on the author's own experience of teaching French to English-speakers, to help the student to understand the different meanings of apparently similar syntactic alternatives. The norms of 'correct expression' are given together with current usage and deviations, and appendixes provide information on the 1990 spelling reforms and on numbers. A substantial index of French and English words and of topics provides easy access to the text itself.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe European Register of Cleft Lip and Palate Services will be produced as a result of the concerted action project: Standards of Care for Cleft Lip and Palate in Europe: EUROCLEFT funded by the European Commision under its BIOMED II and INCO COPERNICUS programmes. The project, aimed at developing a network of cleft care teams across Europe, ran for three years between 1996 and 1999 and aimed broadly to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of care for European children with clefts of the lip and/or palate. Clefts of the lip and/or palate are birth defects affecting 1:500 live births. Successful rehabilitation requires a complex multidisciplinary mix of services.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe over-arching goal of this volume is to help infertility practitioners evaluate and manage their patients with poor semen quality. The authors review the existing literature on the effects of medications on male fertility, and provide detailed information about what is known, giving the number of individuals and population characteristics for studies of medication effects on male fertility. Medications are designed to treat illness and reduce symptoms, but all have undesirable adverse effects such as headache or stomach upset. Some adverse reactions can even be life-threatening, so it is no surprise that some drugs have negative effects on male reproduction. Medical practitioners rarely consider a man’s reproductive plans when prescribing medications. Men are routinely treated with drugs that can impair or abolish fertility. Although practitioners in the field of reproductive medicine generally realize that certain drugs impact negatively on reproductive health, there are limited resources providing evidence-based knowledge useful in counseling patients. Tables throughout this volume summarize the information for each drug, providing a handy reference for clinical use.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKOne million dead a Wear, 500 million with the disease, 2.5 billion people at risk : this is the malaria balance sheet in 2007. The distribution and seriousness of the disease depend on the pathogens and vectors involved, as welt as environmental conditions. Of the four parasites (Plasmodium), only P. falciparum kilts although the other three cause debilitating disease with regular relapses and recrudescence. More than fifty species of Anopheles can fulfil the vector rote which is essential in transmission of the parasite between human beings. Climatic factors (temperature and rainfall), the environment and biogeographical particularities dictate the distribution of anopheline species and determine transmission rates. This is why it makes sense to tank about the biodiversity of malaria. Today, more than 90% of deaths from malaria occur in Tropical Africa which is home to only 10% of humanity. Every 30 seconds a child dies from malaria. This continent harbours the most effective vectors (An. gambiae and An. funestus, in particular) and the climate is highly conducive to transmission of the disease. Severe malaria is also seen in forest foci in Southeast Asia, Papua-New Guinea and the Amazon. In the rest of the tropical and subtropical world, P. vivax and/or P malariae cause less severe disease.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKParents have come to depend on vaccines to protect their children from a variety of diseases. Some evidence suggests, however, that vaccination against pertussis (whooping cough) and rubella (German measles) is, in a small number of cases, associated with increased risk of serious illness. This book examines the controversy over the evidence and offers a comprehensively documented assessment of the risk of illness following immunization with vaccines against pertussis and rubella. Based on extensive review of the evidence from epidemiologic studies, case histories, studies in animals, and other sources of information, the book examines: The relation of pertussis vaccines to a number of serious adverse events, including encephalopathy and other central nervous system disorders, sudden infant death syndrome, autism, Guillain-Barre syndrome, learning disabilities, and Reye syndrome. The relation of rubella vaccines to arthritis, various neuropathies, and thrombocytopenic purpura. The volume, which includes a description of the committee's methods for evaluating evidence and directions for future research, will be important reading for public health officials, pediatricians, researchers, and concerned parents.
